Patents Assigned to Scalzo Automotive Research Limited
  • Patent number: 5538409
Abstract: A piston side seal for a multi-lobed piston of a trochoidal rotary engine, consisting of an elongate, resilient metal seal member in the form of a ribbon having first and second opposed side edges wherein in use, the first edge is adapted for lateral location in a seal groove of a multi-lobed trochoidal piston and the second edge will face and provide a seal with a side plate surface of an engine housing when a force is applied to urge said seal member outwardly with respect to the groove, and characterized in that the seal member is provided with at least one longitudinally extending bevelled surface which faces away from the second edge and is adapted such that when the force is applied to the bevelled surface, the force is resolved into a first component to achieve the sealing of the second edge with the side plate surface of an engine housing and a second component which acts to urge the seal member into engagement with one side of the piston groove to provide a gas seal between the seal member and that o

  • Patent number: 5451149
Abstract: A multi-lobed trochoidal rotor for a trochoidal rotary engine includes main body defining at least two lobes, a trochoidal peripheral surface, side faces forming part of side faces of the rotor and a substantially central bore. Each side face of the body is recessed over each lobe and a plurality of the angularly spaced apertures in each lobe provide communication between the recessed part of each side face. Closure means neatly received in each recessed area complete a respective side face of the rotor. A plurality of passageways extend through the body, outwardly from the bore and include in each lobe at least one supply passageway and at least one return passageway terminating adjacent to an inner face respectively of a first and second closure means. Pressurized oil supplied to the bore is able to flow in each lobe through the at least one supply passageway, the plurality of apertures and the at least one return passageway, to an outlet adjacent the bore.

  • Patent number: 5443375
Abstract: A rotor assembly for a multi-lobed trochoidal rotary engine, said assembly including a flat trochoid shape rotor which defines a bore by which the rotor is rotatably mounted on the crankpin of a crankshaft, and a steel hub, secured in the bore so as to project beyond one of the opposite side faces of the rotor, characterized in that the hub is mechanically inter-locked with the rotor in an arrangement which allows for differences in thermal expansion co-efficients of the rotor and hub, while substantially preventing relative rotation between the rotor and hub and substantially preventing radial separation of the rotor and hub.
