  • Patent number: 4890969
Abstract: A flexible manufacturing apparatus having several parallel, spaced-apart processing machines several shelf-like magazines disposed at the rear of the processing machines and extending transverse thereto, and transport mechanisms for conveying tools from the magazines to the processing machines. Two magazine rows are provided, each composed of magazine sections having superimposed, horizontal bottoms, including a lower shelf bottom and an upper shelf bottom, for holding tools. Transport mechanisms are provided in the form of a first upper transport mechanism, which, above the height of a person, is disposed on an upper transport rail, and a second lower transport mechanism, which, below the upper transport mechanism and at approximately half of the height thereof, is disposed on a lower transport rail. At least one mechanism is provided for conveying tools in a vertical plane from the lower shelf bottoms to the upper shelf bottoms, and vice versa.

  • Patent number: 4833770
Abstract: A flexible manufacturing system for machining workpieces. The system encompasses several tool machines, a storage unit that includes several tool shelves that are disposed along a guideway and have recesses for holding the tools. The guideway is disposed directly adjacent the row of tool machines, and the shelves have horizontal bottoms for supporting tools in a perpendicular manner. A transporting unit transports tools from the storage unit to a transfer station, with the transporting unit having a horizontally disposed pivot arm assembly for transporting tools in a perpendicular position. A changing device is adapted to grasp a new tool from the transporting unit and a used tool from a tool machine in two planes that are perpendicular to one another, and to pivot these tools by 180.degree. to bring them into planes that are perpendicular to the planes that they were in when they were grasped.

  • Patent number: 4676362
Abstract: A control center for workpieces, including a device for transporting workpieces between one or more workpiece assembly or dismantling stations, and one or more machining tools. Also included is a plurality of workpiece carriers having on their underside a transport screw which can be rigidly coupled with the transport screw of one of the machining tools, or with the transport screw of one of the assembly or dismantling stations, or with the transport screw of one or more intermediate carriages disposed between the machining tool or tools and the station or stations. An intermediate shaft is disposed between respective ones of the parts which are to be coupled, with this shaft coupling the screws of these parts. The intermediate shaft has a longitudinal axis about which it is rotatable, and has a further axis which extends at right angles to the longitudinal axis and about which the shaft is pivotable. A common drive mechanism is provided for the rotational and pivotal movements.

  • Patent number: 4638550
Abstract: A horizontal drilling and milling machine having a horizontal, rotatable work table and an angle-cutting milling head with a milling spindle and a drive shaft which is driven by the drilling spindle of the headstock. The milling head is rotatable about the axis of the drilling spindle, and can be pivoted into a tool exchanging position about an axis which extends at right angles to the axis of the drilling spindle.

  • Patent number: 4610583
Abstract: A horizontal drilling and milling machine having a spindle head which can be rotated about an axis set at 45.degree. to a horizontal plane. The spindle head can be arrested in the horizontal and vertical working positions of the spindle sleeve by means of a support housing. The spindle sleeve can be driven via a gear system. The rotary movement of the spindle head is derived from the drive shaft for the spindle sleeve.

  • Patent number: 4610584
Abstract: A horizontal drilling and milling machine having a spindle head which is rotatable about an axis set at 45.degree. relative to the horizontal. In the horizontal and vertical working positions of the spindle sleeve, the spindle head can be arrested via a support housing. In its horizontal working position, the spindle sleeve is rotatably driven exclusively by a spur gear system, and in its vertical working position is rotatably driven with the aid of a bevel gear system.

  • Patent number: 4552495
Abstract: A horizontal combined drilling and milling machine having a horizontally adjustable drilling and milling spindle, and a faceplate with a cross slide and tool cartridge. A precisely determinable supply of cooling medium to the tool is to be achieved in every position of the cross slide, and the exchange of the essential parts of the means for supplying the cooling medium to the cross slide should be effected without manual activity. For this purpose, the machine is provided with an adapter by means of which the cooling medium can be supplied via the drilling spindle and a flexible connection, such as a hose, to the radially adjustable cross slide, the cartridge, and the tool holder all the way to the shaft of the tool.

  • Patent number: 4447178
Abstract: A horizontal drilling and milling machine comprises a vertically movable headstock and a spindle sleeve mounted for horizontal run-out from the headstock. Typically, an outer end of the spindle sleeve undergoes a vertical deflection relative to the headstock during run-out, which deflection is an exponential function of the extent of the run-out. A correcting means is connected to the headstock to move the latter as the run-out proceeds, to effect a vertical correction displacement of the forward end of the spindle sleeve, which displacement is the same exponential function of the extent of the run-out as that of the vertical deflection relative to the headstock. Correction is achieved by comparing a signal indicative of the extent of the run-out, with a predetermined exponential function for the particular spindle sleeve and tool, and generating a suitable correction signal in response thereto. A memory and computer device is employed to make the necessary comparison.

  • Patent number: 4419806
Abstract: A tool changing device on machine tools, particularly on horizontal boring and milling machines having a drilling spindle. The device includes a dual-arm changing arm rotatable about its horizontal axis and provided on both ends with a grasping device. The changing arm is arranged rotatable on a pivotable pivot arm about an axis of the pivot arm parallel to the changing arm axis. The pivot arm is adjustable in the axial direction. The changing arm carries out rotational movements on the pivot arm during pivoting of the pivot arm (superimposed movements). The grasping device at one changing arm end describes a flat compound curve, or follows the connecting line between the starting and end positions.
