  • Patent number: 9827458
Abstract: A step exercise apparatus with a self-centering pedal system. The system comprising a frame and a seat supported from the frame. A first pedal assembly and a second pedal assembly are pivotally supported from the frame positioned so as to be manipulable by a user seated in the seat. A linkage is positioned in communication with the first pedal assembly and the second pedal assembly such that movement of either pedal assembly in a first direction causes movement of the other pedal assembly in a second direction opposite of the first direction. A brake is preferably employed for resisting motion of the first pedal assembly and the second pedal assembly in at least the first direction. A centering system positions the first and second pedal assemblies in a substantially central position when not being manipulated by the user.

  • Patent number: 7722503
Abstract: In accordance with a preferred embodiment, there is provided a system and method for assisting a user complete an exercise program. According to a first aspect, there is provided a system that allows a coach to design an exercise program for an individual client and have that program written to portable non-volatile media that is provided to the client. The client then moves from machine to machine during his or her workout program, in each case first inserting the memory card into the selected machine before starting to exercise. The selected machine, if it is one that has been specified in the client's exercise program, will automatically set its performance parameters to match those on the memory card after which the client will be able to immediately start exercising. Optionally, actual performance data from the user's workout will be written back to the memory card for subsequent printing and/or analysis.

  • Patent number: 7713176
Abstract: A recumbent step exercise machine including a frame, a seat supported from the frame, and a drive mechanism supported from the frame. The drive mechanism includes a first and a second pedal, at least one axle shaft, at least one clutch, a speed increaser, and a brake. The first and the second pedal assemblies are each linked to at least one shaft by a linkage assembly. Each of the shafts are drivingly engaged to at least one clutch. The linkage assemblies act as levers that translate the reciprocating motion of the pedal assemblies into rotational motion of the shaft. Each linkage assembly extends downwardly from the shaft to which it is drivingly engaged and terminates with the pedal assembly. A first and a second arm mechanism may be linked through the linkage assembly to the first and second pedal assembly.

  • Patent number: 6820517
Abstract: The pedal crank of the present invention includes a cam having a channel therein, a hub fixed to the shaft of the exercise machine, an arm operable with a cam follower and a pair of rods. The arm includes the pedal or other force applying member of the exercise machine, and the cam follower extends into the channel of the cam. The rods extend from the hub to the arm such that the distance between the hub and the arm may vary according to the length of the rods. The shaft of the exercise machine extends through an eccentric hole in the cam. A pair of channels are machined in either the hub or the arm in which the rods reciprocate. The pedal crank is capable of extension to a maximum length of the rods which corresponds to the range of maximum biomechanical force applied to the leg of the user to the pedal or other force applying member of the exercise machine. The pedal crank then retracts in length on rotation to a point corresponding to the minimum biomechanical force.

  • Patent number: 6764430
Abstract: A motorized roller comprised of a commercial electric motor suspended inside a drive roller tube, drives via belt means, input of a integral two stage drive belt system adjacent to said motorized drive roller. Subsequently the output of two stage drive belt system is fed back to the motorized motor outside housing which in turn drives treadmill or conveyor continuous belt to move people or goods. Increased torque provided by two stage drive requires less horsepower. The all belt, no gears, drive system absorbs shock, is quiet and has a low profile.
