Patent number: 6684091Abstract: A method of facilitating the intra-departmental or inter-institutional transport of a patient or patients requiring the pulse oximeter monitoring, and wherein the pulse oximeters used for monitoring the patient may be of different manufacturers, comprising affixing to the patient a bandage apparatus having a modular emitter and detector receptacles incorporated thereon. Each different manufacturers' pulse oximeter probe is provided with modular housings adapted to matedly engage and/or disengage the receptacles of the disposable bandage apparatus, thus enabling the patient to be monitored by pulse oximeters of different manufacturers without changing the bandage apparatus.Type: GrantFiled: January 11, 2001Date of Patent: January 27, 2004Assignee: Sensidyne, Inc.Inventor: Brent Parker

Patent number: 6144868Abstract: A reusable pulse oximeter and disposable bandage apparatus and method which includes a reusable oximeter probe assembly with at least one light emitting diode, one photocell detector, each of which is enclosed in first and second plastic housings, respectively. A generally planar bandage strip having adhesive on at least a portion of at least one face thereof and at least two plastic receptacles attached to the other face thereof, each receptacle having an aperture and being adapted to matedly receive the first and second housings of the reusable pulse oximeter probe, respectively. In use the apertures are aligned on the digit of a patient by looking through the aperture in order to attach a first aperture over the nail bed of a patient and, subsequently, engaging the reusable probe components in the receptacles.Type: GrantFiled: April 12, 1999Date of Patent: November 7, 2000Assignee: Sensidyne, Inc.Inventor: Brent Parker

Patent number: 5562002Abstract: A piston flow meter for measuring the flow of a gaseous fluid, such as ambient air, through the flow meter by timing the displacement of a piston in a hollow precision bore flowtube over a fixed distance. The piston is reciprocated from opposite ends of the flowtube by a poppet valve which controls the direction of movement of the piston in the flowtube. Ambient air is drawn into the flow tube from the atmosphere by an external pump connected to an inlet at one end of the flowtube. The flow meter includes a damping assembly for damping pulsations in gas flow through said flowtube with the damping assembly preferably located adjacent the pump inlet to the external pump. The damping assembly comprises damping means which includes a porous member and at least one elastic diaphragm contiguous thereto with the porous member having a multiplicity of voids and a plurality of open channels extending through the porous member to the elastic diaphragm.Type: GrantFiled: February 3, 1995Date of Patent: October 8, 1996Assignee: Sensidyne Inc.Inventor: Hill S.
