  • Patent number: 9475063
Abstract: An electromagnetic drum for magnetic separator comprises a cylindrical structure (6) of ferromagnetic material provided with a plurality of solenoids (2a, 2b) wound on pole bodies (1a, 1b) having pole shoes (3a, 4a; 3b, 4b) arranged at the radially distal end thereof, said pole bodies (1a, 1b) and the solenoids (2a, 2b) wound thereon being all arranged on a same side of a longitudinal midplane of the drum, the solenoids (2a, 2b) having their axes substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal drum axis and each pole body (1a, 1b) extending mainly in a plane substantially perpendicular to said drum axis and substantially parallel to the planes of the other pole bodies (1a, 1b). Such a drum can provide a magnetic field suitable to draw even very large and heavy ferromagnetic scrap without having to face polarity changes along the circumferential path and while retaining cost and size similar to conventional drums.

  • Patent number: 9375727
Abstract: In a drum for magnetic separator comprising a cylinder (C) of ferromagnetic material on the outside of which there are formed a plurality of longitudinal grooves (6) housing permanent magnets (7) arranged in longitudinal rows along a magnetic arc of 130°-160° with alternate N-S polarity, the cylinder (C) being located within a shell (M) of nonmagnetic material, the length (D) of the single dipole of the magnetic circuit is comprised in a range between 100 and 150 mm so as to provide a substantially homogeneous magnetic field along the whole magnetic arc, thanks to the limited length (D) of the dipole which results in a sinusoidal pattern of very limited amplitude and therefore with nominal values of the magnetic field that are present over almost 100% of the magnetic arc.

  • Patent number: 8919839
Abstract: An electromagnetic lifter comprises at least two polar expansions (4), shaped for transporting a horizontal axis coil or the like, arranged perpendicularly to the axis of the coil to be lifted, divided into two halves (4a, 4b) slidable with respect to each other under the action of an actuator mechanism (5) and shaped so as to be able to penetrate each other. The adjustability of the polar expansions (4) allows them to better adapt to the different diameters of the coils to be lifted, with the result of exploiting the greatest possible useful polar section and of reducing to a minimum the operational air gaps, whereby the lifter need not be oversized to take into account the most unfavourable case and it results smaller, lighter and cheaper.

  • Patent number: 8210585
Abstract: An electromagnetic lifter includes at least two polar expansions shaped for transporting a horizontal axis coil of hot-rolled steel. The polar expansions are connected through a ferromagnetic circuit and respective cores around which solenoids are arranged. A detection coil is arranged around each of the cores suitable to detect the change in the flux linked to the coil, and a control unit connected to the detection coils compares the values detected by each of them in order to authorize or not the transport. The relevant operating method includes a first check that the difference between the values detected by the two detection coils is below a preset threshold, and in the affirmative a second check that the overall decrease in the linked flux is below a second preset threshold, the issuance of an authorization signal to the transport being possible only in case of positive outcome of both checks.

  • Patent number: 8056730
Abstract: A magnetic separator conventionally includes a conveyor belt (1) that forms a closed loop around a magnetic roller (2) and an idler roller (3) to convey a mix of materials (4), the novel aspect being that the belt (1) is not driven by the roller (2) but by the idler roller (3) that is motorized, and in that the belt (1) is not wound directly on the roller (2) but on an idle tube (3?) of non-magnetic material inside which the roller (2) is arranged with a minimum gap. It is therefore possible to obtain two surfaces with a relative slip and therefore two different speeds whereby the attracted material, during the path defined by the 180° of tangency to the magnetic area, due to the backing or advancing of the magnetic polarities tends to rotate backward or forward with respect to the travel direction of the belt.

  • Patent number: 7564333
Abstract: A magnetic separator with permanent magnets includes a ferromagnetic member (2) for the circuit connection between at least two magnetic poles (3C) made up of ferrite magnets (12) in the bottom portion in contact with said ferromagnetic member (2) for the circuit connection, and of rare earth magnets (13) in the top portion that represents the entrance/exit surface (14) of the magnetic flux lines (15, 16). The ratio between the effective magnetic length of the ferrite magnets (12) and of the rare earth magnets (13) is preferably 2:1, and the preferred materials are strontium ferrite for the former and iron-boron-neodymium for the latter. In this way it is possible to combine the magnetic characteristics of the two types of permanent magnets so as to make them complementary and thus enhance the attractive effectiveness of the separator both for ferromagnetic materials with high or low shape factor, and for materials with high or low and sometimes very low permeability.

  • Publication number: 20020190826
Abstract: An electromagnet consists of an external case 1 enclosing a first solenoid 2 inside which there are concentrically arranged an internal case 3 enclosing a second solenoid 4 wound around a pole core 5, said elements being closed at the top by a cover 6 and at the bottom by a ring 7 of nonmagnetic steel and by a pole shoe 8. A central aperture 9 extends across the full height of the electromagnet through cover 6, core 5 and pole shoe 8 and allows to deviate into pole shoe 8 the flux lines which tend to close at infinity. In this way the scrap pick is more compact and more evenly distributed, and the formation of cusps in the remaining scrap is reduced so as to shorten the time of operations such as the unloading of wagons, caissons, containers and the like.
