  • Publication number: 20140245694
Abstract: Provided is a method of forming an architectural concrete wall. The method includes conveying a concrete mixture onto a base surface and floating the concrete mixture. The method further includes providing an elongate irregular surface forming tool having a gripping portion and a distressing portion defining an irregular configuration. • Publication number: 20140248076
Abstract: Provided is an improved concrete dowel placement apparatus having a base member including a base plate that is disposable on the outer surface of the concrete form, and an extension member that extends through an aperture located within the concrete form. In this regard, the base member is supported by the concrete form, and is therefore generally configured to withstand higher loads than the conventional prior art designs. Furthermore, the particular attachment configuration spaces the base plate from the concrete slab, which generally prevents the base member from becoming embedded within or adhered to the concrete. As such, removal of the form from the cured concrete tends to be much easier than removal of conventional prior art systems. In addition, the base member is less likely to crack or break during removal, which reduces the overall cost, as fewer base members may need to be replaced.

  • Patent number: 8007199
Abstract: Disclosed are a concrete dowel placement devices and a method of utilizing the same. A metallic stud is driven, screwed, or otherwise attached to a form. The stud may be a unitary structure, or may be a hollow tube with conventional fastening means such as nails and screws extending through and holding the hollow tube to the form. A cover having an interior compartment substantially equal in diameter to the stud is slidably placed thereon, and a first enclosed area is developed with a plurality of forms. Concrete is poured into the first enclosed area, and upon curing, the form and the stud are removed, leaving the cover embedded in the concrete. A metallic dowel is inserted into the cover, and a second enclosed area is developed with like configured forms. The metallic dowel extends into the second enclosed area.

  • Patent number: 7926235
Abstract: An expansion joint system for a wall is provided herein wherein a first concrete wall component is substantially separated from a second concrete wall component via a rigid plate such that contraction of the first concrete wall component does not create significant stresses in the first or second concrete wall component so as to create cracks in the first or second concrete wall component. Moreover, a compressible material may be disposed between the rigid plate and/or the first and/or second concrete wall component such that expansion of the first concrete wall component compresses the compressible material instead of imposing significant stresses on the first or second concrete wall component so as to be likely to form cracks in the first or second concrete wall component.

  • Patent number: 7604432
Abstract: A disc dowel system is interposed between adjacent first and second concrete pours defining a pour joint therebetween. The disc dowel system comprises a pocket former having a rib insert disposable therewithin for engaging the sides of a dowel plate. The pocket former has a vertical base flange with a pair of fastener-receiving bosses for securing the pocket former to a concrete form. The pocket former has a horizontally extending interior compartment with an open straight side that is aligned with the pour joint and is positioned within the first pour. The dowel plate has an orthogonal shape with an embedded portion and a slidable portion. The embedded portion is rigidly encapsulated within the second pour. The slidable portion is slidably disposed within the pocket former such that the dowel plate permits relative horizontal movement of the first and second pours while restricting relative vertical movement thereof.

  • Patent number: 7381007
Abstract: A joint assembly for controlling fractures along a fracture axis in a monolithic pour concrete structure is provided. The concrete structure is defined by a first edge form section and a generally opposed second edge form section. The joint assembly is characterized by a suspension line extending between the first edge form section and the second edge form section, and a fracture inducing sheath suspended therefrom within the concrete structure. The sheath may define an elongate slit that exposes an internal channel that the suspension line traverses. Additionally, a method for forming a control joint in a monolithic pour concrete structure via the joint assembly is provided.

  • Patent number: 7351004
Abstract: A concrete structure for replenishing an aquifer and a method for constructing the same is provided. The structure is comprised of a pavement layer with surface drains that extend through the pavement layer and into an aggregate leach field. The leach field includes leach lines spanning the leach field. An aggregate drain extends from the leach field into a sand lens. Precipitation which falls upon the structure thus flows through the surface drain, absorbed into the aggregate leach field, and transported to the aggregate drains by way of aggregate leach lines. The water is then absorbed into the sand lens, ultimately replenishing the aquifer. Existing conventional pavement structures are retrofitted by the removal of a section of the pavement, and filling the same with porous concrete.
