  • Patent number: 8208666
    Abstract: A method for determining unbiased signal amplitude estimates () after cepstral variance modification of a discrete time domain signal (s(t)), wherein the cepstrally-modified spectral amplitudes () of the discrete time domain signal (s(t)) are ?-distributed with 2{tilde over (?)} degrees of freedom. A bias reduction factor (r) is determined using the equation r 2 = ? ? ~ ? ? ? ? ( ? ~ ) - ? ? ( ? ) , where 2? are the degrees of freedom of the ?-distributed spectral amplitudes of the discrete time domain signal (s(t)) and ? ? ( x ) = - 0.5772 - ? n = 0 ? ? ( 1 x + n - 1 1 + n ) ; then the unbiased signal amplitude estimates () are determined by multiplying the cepstrally-modified spectral amplitudes () with the bias reduction factor (r) according to the equation =r.

  • Patent number: 8204264
Abstract: A faceplate of a hearing device housing with a component fitted in an opening of the faceplate and an associated method are provided. The faceplate is formed from a first material. When a predefinable distance between the support surface of the components in the opening and the surface facing away from the exterior of the faceplate is not reached, a second material is applied below the support surface to the surface of the faceplate such that the predefinable distance is produced. As a result, even with fitted components, for instance the volume controller or program selection switch, the mechanical stability of the faceplate is ensured.

  • Publication number: 20120134505
Abstract: A method operates a hearing device and an associated hearing device has at least one microphone for recording an ambient sound and an earpiece emitting an output sound. A fricative of the ambient sound is reproduced in a temporally lengthened form by the hearing device in the output sound. Speech intelligibility for the hearing-impaired can be improved by the lengthening of fricatives.

  • Patent number: 8189835
Abstract: The miniaturization and wearing comfort of hearing aid devices increasingly runs the risks of a hearing aid device worn on or in the ear of a user getting lost without user realizing. The invention relates to a hearing aid device system comprising a first and a second hearing aid device which is worn on the head or body of a user to provide an electronic loss protection system which is reliable and easily manageable for a user. The first hearing aid device controls a presence of a radio link and/or a signal level of a signal sent from the second hearing aid device and received in the first hearing aid device. If the radio link breaks or the signal level drops below a threshold value, an information signal is generated by the first hearing aid device to inform the user of the loss of the second hearing aid device.

  • Patent number: 8189836
Abstract: A method and hearing aid mold are provided for a hearing device with a first segment for insertion into the auditory canal of the user, a second segment, which projects into the concha of the user when inserted, and a vent, which runs from the first segment into the second segment. A vent opening, which may be enclosed by a titanium ring, is directed in the second segment toward the outer ear of the user, so that an exchange of air can be achieved between the auditory canal and the rear of the outer ear through an opening in the outer ear. Ventilation of the auditory canal from the rear of the outer ear reduces the risk of feedback.

  • Patent number: 8184837
Abstract: A hearing aid and a method for operating a hearing aid include a signal processing device operable by using different signal processing parameters and a UV sensor connected to the signal processing device. The signal processing device can set at least one signal processing parameter as a function of an output signal of the UV sensor. At least one predetermined signal processing parameter can be set in each case for within and outside of enclosed spaces. It is possible to reliably distinguish between environmental situations within and outside of enclosed spaces by using the UV light intensity in the environment to be measured by the UV sensor, so that the method of operation of the hearing aid, e.g. of an aural program, is advantageously automatically matched to these two environmental situations.

  • Patent number: 8180079
Abstract: A method and apparatus for setting a characteristic of a source hearing device on target hearing device are provided. A transformation database is created. A source hearing device including the setting of the source hearing device are identified, the characteristic of setting is to be set on the target hearing device. The setting which, according to the transformation database on the target hearing device, results in the characteristic corresponding to the characteristic of the identified source hearing device is recalled. The target hearing device is set using the recalled setting. Settings are stored in the transformation database during their creation, which have to be set to hearing devices of different types to be set in order to grant these hearing devices the characteristic of other identified hearing with identified settings.

  • Publication number: 20120114156
Abstract: A hearing aid has a hearing aid housing and an associated method for operating the hearing aid. The hearing aid contains a first humidity sensor which determines a first ambient humidity and a modification unit, which modifies an operating state and/or an operating parameter of the hearing aid in dependence on the first ambient humidity detected. The hearing aid takes account of the effect of the humidity of the environment on the hearing aid properties and takes measures to compensate for the humidity.

  • Patent number: 8175305
Abstract: A hearing aid with a drop safeguard has an accelerometer, an electrical circuit, and a memory. The accelerometer generates an electrical signal in dependence on an acceleration of the hearing aid. The signal is transmitted to the electrical circuit which uses this to determine a jerky acceleration of the hearing aid. The electrical circuit saves the respectively current settings of the hearing aid to the memory in the case of a jerky acceleration of the hearing aid. After the hearing aid is dropped, the settings can be reconstructed from the memory so that as a result this prevents the settings of the hearing aid from being changed.

  • Publication number: 20120106762
Abstract: With a hearing aid device suitable for executing a frequency compression, the aim is for different input signals entering the hearing aid device to be easily distinguishable even after frequency compression. To this end it is proposed that form factors should be determined from source frequency bands in which the signal components of the input signal present therein are not included in the output signal, these being included in the amplification of selected frequency bands, the signal components of which are included in the output signal.
