Abstract: Water quality sensor apparatus comprising a substrate on which a plurality of sensors are supported in spaced apart relationship, each sensor being responsive to a different water characteristic and each sensor comprising a sensor region which, in use, is arranged to be contiguous with water the characteristics of which are to be sensed, which sensor regions are electrically connected to connector means via conductors supported on the substrate, the conductors and the connector means being arranged to be non-contiguous with the water in use of the apparatus.

Abstract: A light radiation absorption gas detector for detecting the presence of a specified gas, comprising a light source, a region containing a gas to be detected through which light from the source is passed, an interference filter having a substantially flat face and a light radiation absorption peak at a wavelength which facilitates detection of the specified gas, a shaft to which the filter is by means of arms secured for rotation so that a perpendicular to the flat face of the filter is at an angle to the axis of the rotation and light detector means responsive to light from the source which has passed through the region and the filter, for detecting predetermined light amplitude variations, wherein light from the source is arranged to be projected towards the filter at an angle offset from the axis of shaft rotation whereby a filter pass band which includes the said wavelength is scanned consequent upon rotation of the filter, thereby to produce amplitude variations of light in the presence within the region
Abstract: A radiation detector for beta radiation, the detector including an enclosure having a membrane surface 7 that allows radiation to pass through it while preventing external light becoming incident upon a photo-detector 1. The photo-detector 1 being arranged to detect ionization radiation and may be formed upon a common substrate 3 with means to amplify detection signals.
Abstract: A solid state light source comprising a monolithic light emitter diode structure having a graded bandgap active region 8 the thickness of which is graded between two materials 9, 11, the said materials having differing center wavelengths of light emission, such that the source is capable of emitting light at wavelengths L1, L2 spaced over the whole spectral width between the wavelengths exhibited by the said two materials. This can enable the light source to be used in optical fibre devices where it can provide on alternative to the filament lamp source and thus give an increased reliability in use.
