  • Patent number: 5570525
Abstract: A flexible sign face has uniform luminosity. The sign includes an elongated enclosure having a rear wall and a flexible face translucent front wall, spaced from the rear wall. A plurality of point sources of light are spaced along the rear wall between the front and rear walls. A reflector is provided between each pair of adjacent point sources for reflecting light received from each adjacent point source, toward the flexible face. A diffusion panel is in front of each point source, and between each point source and the front wall. The diffusion panel has perforations in a pattern which increase in density from a center of the panel outwardly toward edges of the panel. The panel also includes a metal corrugated portion carrying the perforations and a translucent acrylic portion attached to the corrugated portion.

  • Patent number: 5127177
Abstract: An expandable sign frame assembly for supporting a flexible membrane comprises a plurality of horizontally spaced vertically expanding section members having T-shaped cross sections. Brackets are slidably mounted near the top and bottom end of the section members and on opposite sides of an upstanding leg of the T-shaped cross section. Tensioning supports are connected at the top and bottom ends of the section members for receiving tensioning bolts which are threaded to flanges of the brackets. A channel extends along and is connected to the upper and lower brackets for capturing the upper and lower edge areas of a membrane which is to be tensioned between the brackets at the upper and lower ends of the section members. For a membrane that extends horizontally around the corner of a structure, horizontally around the corner of a structure, horizontal tensioning is achieved before vertical tensioning by pressing a vertical strip against the inside corner area of the membrane.

  • Patent number: 4955928
Abstract: A tensioning connector, particularly suitable for tensioning the flexible membrane of a sign. The sign membrane is tensioned with a mechanical connector having two connecting components with generally interlocking surfaces. The interlocking surfaces have interengaging, mating, linear ridges. The cross section of the ridges has a generally sawtooth configuration. Both of the surfaces of each sawtooth ridge made an acute angle with the plane of the ridge tips. Importantly, both of these surfaces are on the same side of a normal to the plane.
