Patents Assigned to Simonton Building Products, Inc.
  • Publication number: 20120055107
Abstract: Window assemblies that include window casings are disclosed. One exemplary embodiment of a window assembly includes a window casing that is assembled with a window frame by clips. Each clip is compressed between the window casing and the window frame as the window casing is moved toward an installed position. The clips expand at the installed position to retain the window casing to the window frame at the installed position. Another exemplary embodiment of a window assembly includes a window casing with a top member and side members that are connected by mitered mating surfaces and provide the appearance that the top member and the side members are butt jointed.

  • Patent number: 7415797
Abstract: An impact resistant tilt window assembly includes a window frame with side jambs that have legs that extend in the direction of the exterior of the frame, an upper sash, a lower sash that moves vertically and tilts inwardly and tilt latch assemblies that are positioned on the lower sash, each tilt latch assembly includes a latch bolt with a nose end that includes a notch that is sized to engage the associated jamb leg when the lower sash is in a vertical orientation. The notch has an interior leg that moves along an interior side of the jamb leg and an exterior leg that extends behind an exterior side of the jamb leg and moves along the jamb leg when the sash moves vertically. The window assembly may further include U-shaped reinforcing inserts that are positioned within the jambs such that the tilt latch assemblies engage the inserts when the lower sash is in the closed position.

  • Patent number: 7363747
Abstract: A high structural load window sash latch includes a load applying housing wrap that extends around the interior face of a window sash. The housing wrap transfers the majority of positive forces incident upon the sash to a latch housing, where the forces are transferred to a latch bolt and then to the window jamb. Further, two load-bearing screws also secure the latch housing to the sash, while a hold down screw prevents the housing from lifting.

  • Patent number: 7246423
Abstract: A system and a method for in-line production of insulated glass units (IGU) for custom windows. The system and method schedule IGU production based on the order in which the cut glass is available, or broken out, from a glass cutting station. Once the IGUs are assembled, they are then sorted into the order in which they are to be further processed, i.e., into the order in which the corresponding windows are to be produced and shipped. Thus, the sorting, or carting, step occurs after the cut glass is contained in sealed IGUs, and the workers who perform the sorting step do not have to directly handle the pieces of cut glass.

  • Patent number: 6128871
Abstract: A muntin bar clip includes a contoured body that is shaped to contact the interior of top, bottom and opposing side walls of the muntin bar, and a head that is rotatably attached to the body. The end of the body to which the head is attached is narrowed, to accommodate the rotation of the head without drawing the body from the muntin bar. The body includes projections that extend upwardly and downwardly, and contact the top and bottom walls of the muntin bar. The head includes an L-shaped end, with an upwardly extending wall and a bottom wall. A downwardly extending extension connects to the bottom wall opposite the upwardly extending wall. The extension, which rotatably connects to the body, is separated from the upwardly extending wall by the width of the bottom wall, which is approximately one-half the width of a spacer. The upwardly extending wall is held between the spacer and a sheet of glass.

  • Patent number: 6044611
Abstract: A trim clip hooks onto a main frame of a window and positions wood or vinyl trim (i) parallel to a head, sill or a side jamb of the main frame, and (ii) extending outwardly from an interior wall of the main frame. The clip includes a hinged, outwardly extending base and an inverted J-shaped section that is perpendicular to the base and extends along the interior wall of the main frame. The trim is attached to the section of the base that rotates about the hinge. When the section of the base to which the trim is attached rotates in one direction, it draws the trim essentially parallel to the head, sill or side jamb of the main frame. When section of the base rotates in the opposite direction it orients the trim such that the trim extends outwardly from the interior wall of the main frame, and an end of the trim is held by the J-shaped section of the clip.
