  • Patent number: 8365760
Abstract: A slide valve for blocking a line conveying media includes a housing having a passage opening and a slider plate moveable within the housing at right angles to the passage opening. The slider plate can be displaced from an open position into a closed position blocking the passage opening tightly by a drive mechanism. A lateral seal is disposed in a respective groove in the housing above the passage opening on both sides of the slider plate at right angles to its direction of displacement. The inside and outside of the housing and the slider plate are provided with at least one layer forming a temperature barrier, and the lateral seal includes a high temperature-resistant layer or sealing compound. The risk of a leak into the atmosphere and/or in the passage during a fire or during extinguishing efforts is thus substantially reduced.

  • Patent number: 8235355
Abstract: A slide valve, in particular for blocking a line conveying media, is provided with a multi-part housing (2) having a passage opening (3). Disposed in this housing (2) are two slider plates (4, 5), parallel to one another, moveable at right angles to the passage opening (3), and which can be moved from an open position into a closed position tightly blocking the passage opening (3) by means of a common drive mechanism (10). Means are provided for connecting the two slider plates (4, 5) to one another and to the drive mechanism (10), and which in the closed position allow a pre-determined relative movement of the slider plates (4, 5) in relation to one another in their direction of movement. Thus, even with tolerance deviations with regard to the slider plates and/or their counter-surfaces, a long-lasting blocking function of both slider plates is guaranteed.

  • Patent number: 7946556
Abstract: A resilient seat seal for a valve. The seal has a closed liquid-filled void therewithin, and the liquid redistributes within the seal as a portion of the seal is compressed, thereby causing effective sealing by all portions of the seal. Examples are shown with the seal used in a knife gate valve, a ball valve, and a butterfly valve. Preferably the seal is made of elastomer or polymer material such as GFLT (“good for low temperature”) FKM. The liquid within the void of the seal is preferably an antifreeze liquid such as ethylene glycol.

  • Patent number: 7014164
Abstract: A shut-off device (1) for protection against explosions in a pipe-line is fitted with a slide valve plate (10) movable transversely to the direction of flow (A). The slide valve plate is connected via a piston rod (25, 26) to a piston (27, 28) slidably guided in a cylinder (35, 36) and actuated by a pressure medium. The pressure medium is supplied from a pressure medium reservoir via a closing valve (45) to a working chamber (46, 47) of the cylinder (35, 36), thereby actuating the piston and causing the slide valve plate (10) to move into a position closing the pipe passage (4). At least one cylinder (35, 36) is arranged within a pressure chamber (40) enclosed by a housing (30), which forms the pressure medium reservoir. Thus, a compact, space-saving shut-off device is created which can be shut within a very short time.

  • Patent number: 6010112
Abstract: A driving device for a shut-off device in a pipe-line includes a piston/cylinder unit able to be connected to a slide valve plate of the shut-off device. A working chamber of the unit is connected with the interposition of a closing valve to a pressure medium reservoir. The pressure medium reservoir has an outlet opening connected virtually directly to an opening leading into the working chamber. The closing valve is constructed so that a very short closing time of the slide valve plate connected to the piston of the unit is achieved. The opening is provided in a head of the cylinder and opens into the working chamber. The opening can be closed by a valve disc of the closing valve. An annular chamber follows the valve disc on the side remote from the opening. The pressure medium of the pressure medium reservoir arrives in the chamber. After closing, the driving device can be reused without need of exchanging a deformed part.

  • Patent number: 5549278
Abstract: A parallel-slide gate valve with a sealing liner in two parts, comprises a semicircular lower housing part which can also be used as a mounting segment (30), and an upper housing part (31). The sealing liner (5) is also in two parts, wherein a transverse seal (20) which is subsequently compressible in operation is insertable in the liner stem (6). The assembly and dismantling of the parallel-slide gate valve can thus be effected in the direction of movement of the slide gate, and considerably ease the installation in relation to liner replacement. The mounting segment (30) can remain bolted to the pipe flanges when replacing the sealing liner (5), to align the pipe ends. The assembly is simplified in every respect, and all operating functions are optimally ensured.

  • Patent number: 4742990
Abstract: A sliding plate of a gate valve is guided in guide grooves formed in the region of a flow passage of the two-part gate valve housing. Each guide groove is bounded on both sides [upstream and downstream] by guide strips which extend into the flow channel. The guide strips have axially outwardly directed chamfers, and each such strip has a circular arcuate shaped recess. The recess, which starts at the upper entry point of the guide groove into the flow channel, extends to the lower third of the guide strip. The maximum depth of the recess is 3-5 mm less than the depth (t) of the guide groove 4b. The guide grooves 8a, 8b provide problem-free guiding of the sliding plate when said plate is moved to its closed position, particularly when said plate is moving through the lower third of the flow channel; nonetheless, the guide grooves 8a and 8b present only minimal flow resistance.

  • Patent number: 4646777
Abstract: A guide slot for a valve plate is bounded on both sides by guide strips projecting into a flow channel of a valve housing for the plate. These guide strips contain notches at intervals. The notches of one guide strip are offset relative to the notches of the other guide strip. When the valve is open, medium entering the guide slot through the notches on the inflow side is deflected in the guide slot before it leaves the guide slot again through the offset notches on the outflow side. This generates in the guide slot a lengthwise current leading to a self-cleaning action for combatting deposits. During the valve plate closing process, a permanent self-cleaning takes place over the entire closing travel zone. For this reason, the valve is particularly well suited for use in conveyor lines for thickish, powdery, granular or solids-containing media.

  • Patent number: 4546788
Abstract: A slide valve comprises a valve housing which has a through passage therein with a curved bottom and a recess along the bottom in which is located a resilient seal member. The valve member includes a slide portion which is mounted for upward and downward reciprocal movement in the housing and a guideway formed on each side of the curved bottom. The housing also contains a flange member on each side of the slide plate which has at least one notched portion which defines a scraper edge. The valve plate has a lower stepped portion forming a bottom projecting surface, an upper surface spaced away from the bottom edge and an intermediate ledge surface between the bottom and upper surfaces. The upper surface is curved downwardly at each side toward the bottom surface to define a shearing edge on each side of the slide plate which is cooperable with the scraper edge to dislodge material out of the guideway and the space between the flanges and into the flow stream of the through passage of the valve.

  • Patent number: 4522224
Abstract: The slanted closing rim of a valve plate includes a cylindrical portion at the rear side, having a diameter D1 which corresponds to the width of the plate and slightly exceeds the diameter D3 of the passage throat. A groove in the casing guides the narrow sides of the valve plate and accomodates a seal strip. The grooves partly closed at the front side by a guide strip which in the bottom zone of the passage throat is a semicircularly extending strip. The inside diameter D4 of this cylindrical strip approximately corresponds to that of the valve plate and its axis a extends at a level which is higher by half the difference between diameters D1 and D3 than that of the axis b of the throat passage. A slanted closing rim of the valve plate is provided with shear arcs on its frontal points on each of the side edges. The two shear arcs form a kind of a plowshare deflecting the medium from the seal.
