  • Patent number: 5710494
Abstract: A single-motor drive for an open-end spinning machine, the motor being in the form of an axial field motor with a magnet/gas bearing supporting the rotor with a gas cushion, includes a gas monitoring arrangement which will detect a disruption in the gas supply, and responsive to the gas disruption, a device for braking the rotor is connected with the circuit via a switch. The braking device, which includes a ballast resistor, is set for reducing the rotational speed of the rotor in a manner whereby when the rotor bearing surface lands on the stator bearing surface due to the collapse of the air cushion, its rotational speed is less than that which would result in damage to the bearing surfaces.

  • Patent number: 5637941
Abstract: A shaftless spinning rotor for an open-end spinning machine is adapted to operate as a rotor driven by a stator in an axial field motor supported thereon by a combined magnetic and gas bearing producing separate magnetic fields for guiding orientation of the rotational axis of the rotor and for driving rotation thereof which achieves smooth substantially non-oscillating operation with minimal heating in the region of the axis of rotation by interposing a barrier layer with nonmagnetic properties between respective means for conducting the magnetic flux of the driving and guiding magnetic fields for decoupling the magnetic fields. In particular, separate yokes are utilized for conducting the fluxes of the driving and guiding magnetic fields and permanent magnets are primarily used to generate the magnetic fields.

  • Patent number: 5570572
Abstract: A device for an open-end spinning machine is disclosed having a drive and a bearing for a shaft-less spinning rotor that forms the rotor of an axial field motor. The device has a stator with a hollow, cylindrical core, a multiphase winding, and a combined magnetic/gas bearing. The bearing has gas outlet bores in an axial, plane-parallel bearing face providing for gas distribution symmetrically about the axis, and there are holding and centering magnets centered in the bearing face. The housings of the stator and the bearing are combined into a one-piece stator housing in which are formed the device for cooling, the gas distribution device, holders for spring and clamping elements of the stator housing suspension, and a support for a sensor plate. The housing also integrates a yoke plate of the bearing and connections for supply lines. A gas chamber therein is closed off on the open side by a gas bearing cover.

  • Patent number: 5555715
Abstract: An open-end spinning machine has spinning stations and a magnetic and gas bearing with a stator at each of the spinning stations. A shaftless spinning rotor being electrically drivable with a single motor includes a series of spinning cups with different properties at each of the spinning stations for receiving fibers to be spun, and an electric rotor at each of the spinning stations forming an axial field motor with the magnetic and gas bearing and the stator. The spinning cups and the electric rotor have axially opposing end surfaces, and the end surfaces of the electric rotor and of one of the spinning cups at a time are coupled together to form a functionally appropriately releasable connection as a structural unit at each of the spinning stations.

  • Patent number: 5548950
Abstract: A shaftless spinning rotor for an open-end spinning machine advantageously protects the rotational bearing components in a combined magnetic-gas bearing management by utilizing a concentric magnet arrangement for the generation of a magnetic field for guiding the rotor relative to the stator, wherein a first dynamically balanced magnet unit projects from one of two opposed bearing faces on the rotor and the stator and a corresponding dynamically balanced magnet unit is recessed in the opposite bearing surface, the magnet units being dimensioned to produce an axial as well as a radial air gap therebetween. Air nozzles for producing the gas bearing open into the recessed area. The air gap in the area of the central axis can be embodied to be wider than the air gap between the opposed bearing faces.

  • Patent number: 5537810
Abstract: In order to improve the smoothness of operation of a shaftless spinning rotor embodied as the rotor of an axial field motor wherein the rotor is supported by a magnetic gas bearing, a guide magnet arrangement for generating a magnetic guiding field is decoupled mechanically from the drive component of the stator. To that end, separate magnet and stator components are connected to one another by means having both elastic and damping properties, e.g., rubber. This mechanical decoupling makes it possible for the separate components to execute vibration independently of one another and for vibration to be transmitted from one component to another only in highly attenuated form. Hence, machine vibration can substantially be prevented from affecting the smoothness of rotor operation. Tangential forces generated by harmonics and radial forces caused by magnetic or mechanical asymmetries can likewise be absorbed by the stator, with an attendant improvement in smoothness of rotor operation.

  • Patent number: 5535582
Abstract: A drive for a shaftless spinning rotor wherein the spinning rotor is embodied as the rotor of an axial field motor utilizes axially opposed yoke-forming, magnetically conductive elements disposed respectively on the opposite sides of an air gap formed between the spinning rotor and the stator in combination with at least one magnet (preferably either permanent magnets or electromagnets) on one or both the rotor and stator arranged concentrically to one another and to the rotor axis. The present magnet/yoke arrangement does not require exact mutual alignment of oppositely located magnets nor their homogeneous polarization. The present arrangement is self-adjusting because of the generation of a point-symmetrical field which in operation forms a sort of magnetic potential depression. Magnetic drive and guide fields are advantageously decoupled in order to reduce their mutual interference.

  • Patent number: 4982562
Abstract: A U-shaped latch having a pair of resilient arms is fixed radially and axially in an annular groove formed in the neck of the spindle house. The latch is provided with a projection which passes through a hole in the neck into engagement above a collar integral with the spindle blade, thereby preventing axial movement of the spindle blade. The projection is formed so as to be centered on the inside rim of the latch so that upon radial shifting of the latch, the projection is moved from its engaging position to a disengaging position. The forked latch provides the necessary spring tension to hold the latch in place in either position.

  • Patent number: 4891566
Abstract: To regulate the speed of a plurality of asynchronous motors fed by a converter having a variable output frequency and output voltage and having a load-dependent slip, particularly asynchronous motors for driving spindles of a textile machine, the rotational frequency of several selected asynchronous motors is measured by means of respective digital frequency indicators. This measurement takes place in continuous repetition, always beginning simultaneously. The pulses of the frequency indicators are counted by means of respective first counters (1-6), all of which release a pulse when they reach the same counter condition. An OR circuit (13-17) connects the counter outputs with a second pulse counter (18) in such a manner that this condition is reached first by the output pulse released by the highest rotational frequency and then by the output pulses released by the second-highest rotational frequency, etc.
