  • Patent number: 5007725
Abstract: A torque-limiting device for a mechanism controlling a vehicle rearview mirror in which the mirror is fixed on a supporting member mounted for pivoting about two perpendicular axes, on a yoke integral with a baseplate mounted in the casing. The tubular extension with the threaded portion of the control members is produced from a deformable material and is provided with at least one axial slot issuing into one of the ends of the tubular extension in such a way that any force applied axially on the control member enables the threaded end portion to disengage from the threaded hole, and the pinions are mounted on the bottom of a casing by way of a ball joint which is resiliently held in position so that the control members are always in alignment with the axis of the driving pinions.

  • Patent number: 4914972
Abstract: A device incorporating three cables for controlling a mirror support of a vehicle rearview mirror, which includes, between, on the one hand, a fixed plate on which are flanged the sleeves of the cables and, on the other hand, the support of the mirror, a crosspiece having four journals aligned in two's in two perpendicular directions and mounted in clippable fork-joints on the plate and support, respectively. According to the invention, the journals of each pair are more remote from one another than those of known crosspieces. The crosspiece has guiding bearing surfaces extending perpendicularly to a pivoting axis in order to cooperate with friction tabs on the mirror support and other guiding bearing surfaces extending perpendicularly to the other pivot axis in order to cooperate with friction tabs on the fixed plate.

  • Patent number: 4871246
Abstract: A device for transmitting, without vibration, movements from an electric control to a mirror-holder plate of a rearview mirror, in which the mirror-holder plate is supported by the cover of the casing via a pivot cross and connected to two motors by two transmissions, each transmission having a screw coupled to a motor and meshing with a tangent wheel integral with a nut cooperating with a screw provided with a ball joint for connection with the plate. Each nut cooperates with a grip washer pushed by a spring washer to grip a spherical dish on the bottom of the casing, the seats of the dish being concentric with respect to a pivot point located between the bottom and the cover.

  • Patent number: 4824065
Abstract: The invention relates to a rearview mirror having a mirror-holder casing, a fixed base, a connecting mechanism interposed between the casing and the base and members for guiding pivoting of the casing about a substantially vertical, forward-rearward axis and a substantially horizontal upward-downward axis. Friction bearing surfaces combined with the members for guiding pivoting of the casing cooperate to create friction couples resisting the pivoting. The rearview mirror futher has two distinct springs cooperating, respectively, with at least one bearing surface for guiding upward-downward pivoting and at least one bearing surface for guiding forward-rearward pivoting.

  • Patent number: 4819050
Abstract: Electronic disabling circuits are provided to prevent the engine of a motor vehicle to be protected from starting in the event of an attempt at starting the vehicle while the disabling circuits are switched on by a switch. An inhibitor device serves to prevent the disabling circuits from stopping the engine in the event the switch is actuated in an untimely manner while the engine is running. In addition, a detector for detecting the presence of a human being serves, via a circuit, to reliably trigger an alarm in the event of an intrusion, by applying a detection signal to an input of the circuit, assuming the circuits have been switched on by the switch.

  • Patent number: 4558840
Abstract: A mounting for joining a mirror casing to a support member. The support member is attached to a vehicle body panel or gusset. An intermediate member secured to the mirror casing is connected to the support member by a single joint which is adjustable and which yields upon impact to the mirror casing. In one embodiment, a control lever may be used to rotate the mirror from inside the vehicle. The control lever is connected to the intermediate member by a releasable pivot joint to allow the mirror casing to pivot relative to the control lever upon impact.

  • Patent number: 4523736
Abstract: A device for mounting a rearview mirror casing on a support member integral with the bodywork of a vehicle, wherein the casing has a convex face against concave face of the support member by an elastic member disposed inside the casing. One of the ends of the elastic member is secured inside the casing. The other end is pivoting mounted on a fastening member integral with the support member and extending inside the casing so that the action of the spring is always exerted along the longitudinal axis of the casing. The convex face of the casing is provided with an opening to allow the fastening member therethrough. The opening has at least two opposing bosses which are adapted to be selectively engaged in at least two opposing slots extending from the opening when the casing is in a retracted position. The housing has at least one rib which is engaged in a corresponding slot provided in the support member.
