Abstract: A low temperature solid state light detecting system is disclosed. The same incorporates a source of cooling and an electrical light detector. A heat conducting member extends from the detector chip to the source of cooling. A vacuum chamber contains the light detector. The chamber has a window for permitting light to fall on the electrical light detector. A plurality of electrical feedthrough devices are mounted on the chamber for coupling electricity from inside the chamber to the outside of the chamber. A plurality of bare wires extends from the detector to the feedthrough devices positioned on the housing.

Abstract: An apparatus for compressing a workpiece is disclosed. The apparatus has a die to receive the workpiece in powdered or other form. An abutment holds the workpiece in a fixed position against the application of force, while a hydraulic cylinder is positioned to exert force against the die in the direction toward the abutment. A pump feeds hydraulic fluid to the hydraulic cylinder, and a pressure control valve is coupled to the hydraulic cylinder to control the maximum pressure in the hydraulic cylinder. The pressure control valve has a sealing member, a seat which engages the sealing member with the sealing member closing the outlet, a spring which urges the sealing member towards the seat, closing the outlet, and a backing member putting the spring under compression by maintaining a distance between the backing member and the seat. A stepping motor is rigidly mounted with respect to the seat.

Abstract: A monochromator of the Czerny-Turner type includes an entrance slit, a collimating mirror for receiving light output by the entrance slit, a planar grating for receiving light reflected by the collimating mirror, a focusing mirror for receiving light reflected by the grating, and an exit slit for receiving light focused by the focusing mirror. Light generally proceeds from the entrance slit to the collimating mirror, form the collimating mirror to the grating, from the grating to the focusing mirror and from the focusing mirror to the exit slit. The improvement comprises the use of a single toroidal collimating mirror in the system in combination with a spherical focusing mirror.

Abstract: The disclosure is of a fluid analyzing cell including a cylinder having an open end closed by a plastic film and a closed end wall including means therein for easily rupturing said closed end wall to accommodate fluid expansion or venting of gases within the cell.

Abstract: Apparatus is supplied for providing a primary standard of a gas by sealing in a container a material which is the source of the gas in predetermined amounts. Upon releasing the gas from the material, sample aliquots are removed and are passed into the analytical equipment being used in the subject testing.
