Patent number: 5699988Abstract: A coupler clamping assembly (10) is provided for releasably connecting a mobile support stand (52) with a patient transport device such as a gurney (54), in order to allow patient transfer with the support stand while eliminating the need for extra transport personnel. The clamp (10) preferably includes a pair of opposed, laterally spaced apart jaws (20, 22) interconnected by a central bight section (24). A connector assembly including a pair of oppositely extending elongated connection elements (14, 16) is supported on the body for relative pivotal movement, and the connection elements are received for rotation in a tubular section (66) conventionally provided as a part of the gurney (54). A clamping screw (18) is threaded for receipt in a threaded opening through one of the jaws (20) and cooperates with the opposed jaw (22) for securely clamping the upright standard (60) of the pole unit (52) within the clamping assembly (10).Type: GrantFiled: October 14, 1994Date of Patent: December 23, 1997Assignee: St. Francis Research InstituteInventors: Conrad H. Boettger, Bill J. Hawks, Jr.

Patent number: 5624414Abstract: A quick-connect, needleless coupling assembly configured to shield its critical areas from contamination by environmental surfaces has a pair of interlocking, flow-through male and female components which may be used as part of a larger medicinal liquid therapy system. The male component has a generally rigid, blunt, open-ended cannula which is recessed with respect to a surrounding concentrically spaced collar so that the open end of the cannula is protected against contact from environmental surfaces which might otherwise contaminate the cannula. The female component has a socket which receives the male cannula to place the two components into liquid flow communication with one another.Type: GrantFiled: June 7, 1995Date of Patent: April 29, 1997Assignee: St. Francis Research InstituteInventor: Conrad H. Boettger

Patent number: 5427338Abstract: An organizing device (10) is provided for use in hospitals, in order to maintain plural patient care lines (e.g., transducer lines (50) and intravenous infusion lines (52)) in a separate, individually identified, easy to use relationship. The device (10) includes an elongated, rigid base plate (12) having upstanding wall sections (14); the wall sections (14) include axially spaced apart, differently configured openings (34, 36) for receiving different patient care lines (50, 52). The base plate (12) also has a surface (28) for receiving line-identifying information thereon. A level indicator (16), viewable from both sides of the device (10), is provided in order to facilitate proper setup of transducer lines (50). The device (10) is preferably of unitary and integral synthetic resin construction, and is of a length to span the distance between upstanding hospital bed rails (58), thereby permitting releasable connection of the device (10) to a hospital bed.Type: GrantFiled: October 19, 1993Date of Patent: June 27, 1995Assignee: St. Francis Research InstituteInventors: Shirley M. The clamping assembly (10) preferably includes a pair of opposed, laterally spaced apart jaws (20, 22) interconnected by a central bight section (24). A pair of oppositely extending elongated connection elements (14, 16) are secured to the opposed faces of the bight section (24), and permit the clamping assembly to be releasably and pivotally inserted into a tubular section (66) conventionally provided as a part of the gurney (54). A clamping screw (18) is threadably received by one of the jaws (20) and cooperates with the opposed jaw (22) for securely clamping the upright standard (60) of the pole unit (52) within the clamping assembly (10).Type: GrantFiled: January 19, 1993Date of Patent: October 18, 1994Assignee: St. Francis Research InstituteInventor: Conrad H. Patent number: 5323908Abstract: An improved method and apparatus designed to facilitate the dispensing and inventory control of medications is provided, preferably in the form of a book (16) containing a plurality of transparent bags (10-14). Each of the bags (10-14) holds one or more multiple-dosage cards (32-36) including a plurality of transparent, frangible, single dosage form-holding compartments (38). Each bag is moreover provided with medication and dosage form information (25), preferably along a side marginal edge thereof. A record sheet (52) is also provided which includes reference markings (54) for each of the medications and dosage forms contained within a respective bag (10-14), along with spaces (56) for noting periodic usage of each dosage form of each different medication.Type: GrantFiled: August 6, 1993Date of Patent: June 28, 1994Assignee: St. Francis Research InstituteInventor: Conrad H.
