  • Patent number: 8305828
Abstract: The present invention relates to a memory circuit and a method of controlling data retention in the memory circuit, wherein a supply signal is selectively switched to a respective one of at least two virtual supply lines (24) each shared by a respective one of a plurality of groups (30-1 to 30-n) of memory cells (C0,0 to Cy,z). The selective switching is controlled based on a global activity control signal (A), used for setting the memory circuit either into a standby state or into an active state, and a local data retention indication signal (DR1 to DRn) allocated to a dedicated group of memory cells. Thereby, the data retention part of the memory circuit can be adapted to the application and its state, and standby mode leakaged power is only dissipated in those memory cells for which data retentions actually required.

Abstract: The invention may provide a method and filter block for compensating droop in a frequency response of a signal. The filter block may include a decimator, which decimates a high frequency input signal to a set frequency output signal. The set frequency can be, for example, the Nyquist frequency for the input signal. Further, the filter block may include a droop compensator that compensates the droop in the frequency response of the output signal from the decimator. The droop compensator may be made using recursive filters, as opposed to large tap FIR filters, which may result in less memory consumption and decreased power consumption.

Abstract: A receiver estimates I/Q imbalance in I and Q input signals using circuitry to separate different frequency components of the I and Q input signals, and estimation circuitry arranged to estimate I/Q imbalance at the different frequency bands. The separating of the bands may be carried out in the frequency domain, and may involve combining corresponding values representing corresponding negative and positive frequency bands, and converting the separated frequency domain representations to a time domain representation before the estimation. The estimated imbalance may be used to correct the I and Q signals at the different frequency bands.

  • Patent number: 7613229
Abstract: A method of managing fingers for multipath signals in a wireless communication device. In one embodiment, the present invention recites receiving multipath signals at a wireless communication device. The present embodiment then acquires one of the multipath signals in a searcher portion of the wireless communication device and determines a signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) level of the one multipath signal. Next, the present embodiment evaluates the multipath signal for categorization into one of a plurality of states and then generates a finger assignment by selectively providing the multipath signal for a demodulation operation based upon its state. The present embodiment then receives the finger assignment from the searcher portion of the communication device and determines a signal-strength for the finger assignment. The present embodiment then enables the finger assignment for a combine operation if the signal-strength for the finger assignment satiates a first signal-strength threshold.

  • Publication number: 20090181637
Abstract: A receiving apparatus for a digital mobile communication system comprises an adaptive filter for filtering an input signal. A step-size parameter chosen for the adaption of filter coefficients of the adaptive filter is computed from a variation of the filter coefficients used by the adaptive filter. This facilitates an indirect measure for the channel variation so that a good reception quality over a wide range of user velocities may be enabled in contrast to a system design based on a compromise step-size parameter being optimum for one velocity only.

  • Publication number: 20090180522
Abstract: A scheme determines the first significant path (FSP) of a received multipath signal, from data defining the relative delay and the amplitude of the individual signal paths occurring in a series of time frames. The scheme includes filtering the data to spread the signal paths, performing a persistence test between frames to reject spurious signal paths, combining the energy of the signal paths in a frame, applying a test to determine the time at which the combined energy satisfies a criterion, and selecting the FSP dependent on that time. The combined energy may be evaluated within a sliding window, and the position of the window within the frame determined that maximizes the combined energy. Alternatively, the combined energy may be evaluated as the cumulative energy through the frame, and the position determined at which the cumulative energy reaches a threshold.
