  • Patent number: 4951934
Abstract: The invention relates to a device for stacking flat articles, such as postal items. First guide (9), which form part of a stacker head (7) and which bound a stack of articles (2) already stacked in a stacker bed (1) in a plane of stacking (D), carry out an imposed to-and-fro pulse movement between a rest position (A) and an outermost position (C) transversely to a supply line (3) and in line and level with the stack to make stack space for a short time for an article (2.2) to be stacked, which article is entering at that moment via the supply line (3). The pulse movement can be realized by hanging the first guide (9) on the one hand by way of a first set of parallel leaf springs (17, 18) to a frame part (19, 20, 31, 32) in such a way that they can swing, and on the other hand by coupling them to the driving end (28) of drive (25, 26) carried on bearings in the frame part.

  • Patent number: 4946262
Abstract: Method and device for controlling a beam off light (17), which is coupled in into a working layer (2) of electro-optical material and which is supplied to a working area (16). In a first optically conductive state the working area has a poling mode which differs from the one of the surrounding working-layer material (7), as a consquence of which other refractive indices will arise, due to which the working area will form a light waveguide through which the beam of light coupled in will be conducted (19) to a first glass fibre (22). In a second optically conductive state the working area has a poling mode which is equal to the one of its surroundings. Because of the fact that the refractive indices inside and outside the working area are not equal, the working area will not form a light waveguide, but (e.g.) a light insulator or a light reflector, by means of which the beam of light coupled in will be conducted to a second glass fibre (21).

  • Patent number: 4934662
Abstract: A method and device for installing a cable, more in particular a glass fiber cable, into a duct of a channelization system, the consideration which has led to this being based on the fact that the dragging working, considered from the cable inlet end, as caused by a flow of compressed gas effected in a relevant duct portion will increase according to a non-constant function and, dependent on the geometry and the length of the duct portion, can be insufficient over the initial part of it to compensate the friction forces exerted on the cable locally. According to the invention it has now been suggested to fulfill such a compensation function by exerting on the cable a pushing force working extending to the point where the dragging working will be sufficient to compensate the friction forces.

  • Patent number: 4748534
Abstract: Device for establishing such a galvanic connection between conductors of a first batch and conductors of a second batch that on the one hand signal transmission between the two batches can take place undisturbed, and on the other hand transmission consequent on inducing electro-magnetic radiation will be blocked in two respects. High voltage induced in the conductors of the first batch consequent on high-energetic radiation, which manifests itself as a pulse, is reduced in stages to a relatively low residual voltage on the conductors of the second batch. Besides voltages induced either in the conductors of the first batch or in the conductors of the second batch, consequent on electromagnetic radiation having a signal character, are strongly reduced, in such a way that the conductors of the relevant other batch (either the second or the first) will not cause a detectable corresponding radiation.

  • Patent number: 4687106
Abstract: A device for detecting postal articles unsuited for mechanical handling is equipped with a bed of belts formed by a large number of side-by-side resilient belts (2) assembled with predetermined tension around two pulleys (3,4), which can turn freely around shafts fixedly mounted on a base plate. A conveyor belt passes over a guiding roller (6) opposite the bed of belts. The conveyor direction of motion is deflected around the roller and the bed of belts is taken along by the conveyor belt (1) by means of friction. An article on the conveyor approaching the guiding roller while moving between the conveyor and the bed of belts is subjected to a bending force when passing the guiding roller. The belts of the bed of belts here work as scanning elements. Deflection of one or more of them from the normal path, away from the guiding roller (6), can be detected by a combination (11) of an infrared radiator and a detector.

  • Patent number: 4479188
Abstract: This disclosure concerns a system for digitally detecting one or more of a plurality of fixed frequencies in an analog signal according to a correlation method, the fixed frequencies occurring in a first group and in a second group wherein a third harmonic of one or more frequencies of the first group is equal or almost equal to a frequency of the second group. Each of the frequencies of the first group are represented by a sequence of six equidistant pulses per period, which pulses have the values +1, +1, 0, -1, -1 and 0, respectively; and the frequencies of the second group are represented by a sequence of two equidistant pulses per period, which pulses have the values +1 and -1, respectively. All these reference pulses can be stored in a reference memory (5) which is read out at a frequency whose value is equal to the product of the number of memory places in the reference memory, and the frequency which is the highest common factor of the frequencies to be detected.

  • Patent number: 4461029
Abstract: This disclosure concerns a system for automatically reading handwritten and typewritten characters. First, a 64.times.64 point image is made of each character. Then the size and any overlapping with an adjacent character is considered in determining whether the character is either handwritten or typewritten, the latter being smaller and not overlapping. To consider these properties, the image on the 64.times.64 point image area is moved into the upper lefthand corner of the area so that its top and lefthand edge of the image are in contact with the top and lefthand edge of the area for better determining the size of the image after overlapping, if any, has been eliminated. Next, each of the images on the 64.times.64 point image areas, is separated into four images having 32.times.32 image points which are stored in four separate registers. The four 32.times.32 point images correspond with each of the four points making up each square of four image points of the original 64.times.

  • Patent number: 4279017
Abstract: According to the method of the invention two successive samples from each of two signal channels to be detected are alternately fed and not fed to the detection device. In consequence of this, fewer interference products are obtained, so that the processing time can remain relatively short. Moreover the two multi-frequency code samples (MFC-samples) of two channels can be processed simultaneously. A device (FIG. 3) examines on a time division basis the signalling time slots of two pulse code modulated frames of multi-channel signals (PCM-frames). Under the control of a microprocessor circuit (27) the pulse code modulated selected multi -frequency signal samples are processed in an input control circuit (28) when they are correlated with one another by being multiplied by sine and cosine reference series signals from a buffer (29). The correlation results are fed to accumulators (30, 33).

  • Patent number: 4276653
Abstract: Device for receiving radio call messages, preferably on board ships, which device comprises a number of receivers (1) for different frequencies from various stations and/or transmitters and means for processing the messages. The output of each receiver is connected to the input of a shift register (4) of which the output signal is a binary signal having the value "1" or "0" and each output is fed to the input of an identifier (11) for determining the pertinence of the messages to the relevant ship. The outputs of the identifier or of the identifiers (11) are connected to a switching unit (14), which, in case the identifier means (11) has identified a message pertinent to the relevant ship, connects the appropriate shift register to a store (13) available at that moment. A cyclic scanner (18) then quickly and successively reads out the completed and stored messages and transfers them to a terminal station for further storing and processing.
