  • Patent number: 5476632
Abstract: A process of forming a sintered article of powder metal comprising: selecting elemental iron powder; determining the desired properties of said sintered article and selecting, a quantity of carbon, and ferro alloy from the group of ferro manganese, ferro chromium, ferro molybdenum, ferro vanadium, ferro silicon and ferro boron; grinding said ferro alloy to a mean particle size of approximately 8 to 12 microns; introducing a lubricant while blending the carbon, ferro alloy, with said elemental iron powder; pressing the mixture to form the article; and then high temperature sintering the article at a temperature between 1,250.degree. C. and 1,350.degree. C. in a neutral or reducing atmosphere; so as to produce the sintered article of powdered metal; and includes the product formed thereby.

  • Patent number: 4758300
Abstract: Improvement in the process and the apparatus for applying strip labels are made possible by a vacuum drum having a deformable outer surface controlled to be at least essentially cylindrical during initial application of a label to an article and selectively deformable to cause portions of a label thereon to be brought into contact with a glue applying roll. The apparatus uses a component vacuum drum where selective portions of the drum are replaced and other components repositioned to effect changeover from one label length to another.

  • Patent number: 4544431
Abstract: The apparatus of the present invention processes roll fed labels for application to articles to be labelled. Adhesive is applied to or activated on the leading edge of the first to be applied label and the label is subsequently cut from the label supply and advanced by a conveyor in timed synchronization with an article to be labelled. Preferably, adhesive is applied to or activated on the leading edge of such first label as it is held essentially stationary on a vacuum bed in slipping engagement with continuously driven belts.

  • Patent number: 4386995
Abstract: A label magazine for supplying labels to a labeller has a label stack tray, a label picker for withdrawing individual labels from the stack and a device for advancing the stack of labels towards the label picker. The device for advancing the labels exerts a repetitive varying pressure on the label stack to advance it by alternately increasing pressure on the stack of labels for compressing same and subsequently reducing the pressure on the stack of labels.

  • Patent number: 4361759
Abstract: A speed control system for a container processing line is disclosed. The container processing line has a container capper and a labeller for applying labels to capped containers, the speed control system providing improved line performance, smooth bottle handling and continuity in operation of the units. The speed control system synchronizes the labeller speed with the capper speed when a predetermined backlog of containers has accumulated upstream of the labeller.

  • Patent number: 4354887
Abstract: An apparatus for labelling conveyed articles applies glue to the rear surfaces of labels and applies the glued labels to the articles. The apparatus comprises a device for passing the rear face of the label by a glue applicator and then applying the glued label to an article. In the absence of a label on the device, the pad for carrying labels is withdrawn as it passes the glue applicator. The label transferred to a pad is held on its face by the use of vacuum. When a label maintains vacuum on the pad face, a brake in response to the maintained vacuum is actuated to prevent withdrawal of the pad, as it passes the glue applicator. In the absence of a label, the brake is inoperative to allow the pad to withdraw and avoid application of glue to the pad face.
