Patents Assigned to Star Sprinkler Corporation
  • Patent number: 5632339
Abstract: A sprinkler head comprises a tubular body having a first threaded end to be connected to a water line and having a second end that defines an outlet enclosed by a cap. A thermally responsive element, such as a glass bulb or heat fusible element, is engaged with the cap to maintain the cap in a closed position. The body is provided with a pair of generally parallel circumferential grooves. The bottom of one of the grooves adjacent the threaded end has a polygonal cross section to receive a wrench to enable the sprinkler head to be threadedly attached to a water line, while the other of the grooves receives the base portion of a wire-form protective guard that encloses the thermally responsive element.

  • Patent number: 5372203
Abstract: An improved concealed sprinkler head including a frame having a outlet that is connected to a water line and a valve cap encloses the outlet and is held in the closed position by a thermally responsive mechanism, such as a glass bulb. A preassembled cover plate unit is mounted to the frame after the frame is installed with the water line. The cover plate unit includes an outer tubular sleeve that surrounds the frame and a spring is located within the sleeve and is maintained in a compressed condition by a ring having tabs which engage a recess in the sleeve. The lower edge of the sleeve carries a cover plate which is connected to the sleeve via a fusible metal, such as solder. The ring is provided with a pair of opposed guide channels which receive the side edges of the arms of the frame as the cover plate unit is slid upwardly over the frame.

  • Patent number: 5234059
Abstract: A quick response frangible bulb sprinkler head includes a tubular body connected to a water line. The body has an outlet that is enclosed by a cap or closure, which is held in the closed position by a lever assembly. The lever assembly includes a pair of lever arms which are disposed in an X-configuration, with one end of each arm engaged with the body and the opposite ends of the lever arms are spaced apart and engaged with the opposite ends of an elongated glass bulb. The axis of the bulb is disposed normal to the axis of the outlet in the body. A screw is threaded in the closure and the tip is engaged with a channel-shaped pressure member that is connected to the central portions of the lever arms. Through adjustment of the screw, the compressive force on the bulb can be varied.

  • Patent number: 5195592
Abstract: A sprinkler head including a frame or body having an opening to be connected to a water line. The body also includes a pair of arms which are joined together at a junction. A cap encloses the opening and a releasable mechanism, such as a frangible glass bulb, is connected between the junction and cap. When the sprinkler head is exposed to an elevated temperature, the glass bulb will fracture releasing the cap to permit water to be discharged from the opening. The sprinkler head includes an ejection mechanism which prevents the cap from hanging up on the arms. The ejection mechanism has a base connected to a projection on the upstream side of the cap and a skirt extends longitudinally from the base and terminates in a thin edge facing upstream.

  • Patent number: 5072792
Abstract: An improved concealed sprinkler head assembly that incorporates a standard pendant-type sprinkler head includes a frame having an outlet that is connected to a water line and a valve cap that encloses the outlet and is held in the closed position by a releasable lever mechanism which includes a fusible metal. The assembly also includes a pre-assembled cover plate unit that consists of a disc having a central opening that is slid upwardly over the frame of the sprinkler head. The cover plate unit also includes a tubular sleeve having a pair of opposed notches which receive projections on the periphery of the disc. A decorative cover plate is secured through a fusible metal, such as solder, to the lower edge of the sleeve, and a coil spring, in a compressed condition, interconnects the upper end of the sleeve with the disc.

  • Patent number: 4987957
Abstract: A side wall sprinkler head including a body defining an outlet to be connected to a water line. A pair of arms extend outwardly from the body and are disposed in a common horizontal plane and the ends of the arms are connected at a junction. A cap encloses the outlet in the body and a releasable link interconnects the cap and the junction. When the sprinkler head is exposed to an elevated temperature the link will release the cap permitting water to be discharged from the outlet. The water is distributed in a desired pattern by a deflector which is connected to the junction. The deflector includes a first vertical section and the upper edge of the vertical section is connected via a reverse bend to a horizontal deflector plate. A central tine extends downwardly from the lower edge of the vertical section and a pair of outer tines are disposed on opposite sides of the central tine and extend diagonally downward from the lower edge of the vertical section.

  • Patent number: 4977963
Abstract: A partially concealed fast response sprinkler head having a body defining an inlet to be connected to a water line and having an outlet normally enclosed by a valve cap. The upper ends of a pair of lever members are supported on an internal shoulder in the body. Each lever member is generally semicircular in cross section and the lower ends of the lever members taper inwardly and define a central passage. The valve cap is provided with a threaded bore which receives a screw and the head of the screw engages a retaining bar, the ends of which bear against the upper ends of the respective lever members at a location spaced inwardly from the engagement of the lever members with the body, so that the force of the retaining bar against the lever members will tend to pivot the lower ends of the lever members outwardly away from each other.

  • Patent number: 4757865
Abstract: A fast response sprinkler head. The sprinkler head includes a frame having a base portion connected to a source of water under pressure and a pair of arms extended outwardly from the base and are connected at a junction. A cap normally encloses the outlet in the base and a lever assembly, which extends between the junction and the cap, holds the cap in the closed position. The lever assembly includes a pair of lever members, with one of the lever members being biased in a direction away from the other lever member. A fusible link assembly interconnects the lever members and includes a pair of thin metal sheets that are joined together by a layer of fusible metal or solder. Each sheet is formed with a recess in one side edge and the recesses face each other to define an opening which receives the lever member. The corners of each sheet are bent generally normal to the sheet to provide fins or tabs.
