Abstract: An apparatus for blocking of redirection attempts by a home network when a mobile unit roams in a visited network. The apparatus comprises: a detector, configured for detecting a roaming transaction by a mobile unit of a visiting user and a respective redirection attempt of the mobile unit from the visited network by a home network of the visiting user, and further comprising a redirection blocker, associated with the detector and configured for blocking the redirection attempt.

Abstract: The CAMEL standard allows a roaming user to have his call or any other telephony service, say SMS and GPRS, controlled and services provided from his home network. The invention allows infrastructure triggers to be intercepted at the roaming network so that the roaming network can identify the roamer and make use of the triggers to provide services. This is possible irrespective of whether the roamer's home network supports the infrastructure.

Abstract: A system installed at a roaming mobile network, comprises: a signaling relay enabled to monitor, intercept and modify mobile network signaling messages between the roaming network and the home network, a controller application for the signaling relay, said controller configured to instruct the signaling relay to replace an identity of a roaming user with a local network subscriber identity, thereby to enable registration of the roaming user with the local network for receiving at least one local mobile service as a local user, the roamer retaining a pre-existing registration with a respective home mobile network for receiving at least one other roaming mobile service, wherein authentication of the mobile device with the roaming network uses authentication data of the home network registration.

Abstract: A system for transferring alphanumeric information to a mobile device, embedded with the call signaling, where the mobile device is able to extract the information from the incoming call and display it on the device, the information containing at least one of: {caller's name, caller's brand name, caller's information, caller's brand information}, the information is being added to the call by a network server controlling the call using IN triggers, or being added to the call directly by the caller's mobile device.

Abstract: A mobile communication device such as a mobile telephone comprises: a communication management module configured to use logic in order to manage communication, for example, correct dialing sequences, translate short codes between networks, set preferences for connecting to roaming networks etc.; and an update unit which obtains data from the network in order to update the logic at the phone so that the communication management is carried out at the telephone based on dynamically updated data. The invention is particularly applicable to roaming users.

Abstract: A remote preference unit for influencing visited network selection by roaming mobile units, comprises a detection signaling relay/probe on International signaling connections, for detection of roaming activity by mobile units, a database indicative of preferred networks in the given country that the network operator prefers his roamers to use, application logic with certain criteria, determining the output, and an output unit, associated with said detection probe and said database to output indications to influence network selection by said detected roaming mobile units. In one embodiment the output is simply a rejection of the location update signal that forms the roaming request. In an alternative embodiment the signal is a copy of the relevant section of the database which is uploaded to the SIM card of the roaming unit. The SIM card upgrade may or may not be accompanied by a stage of forcing the handset to re-initiate the network selection process.

Abstract: A global location register (GLR) provides a proxy for visitor location registers to the home location registers to avoid updating of the external network with location update notifications upon transfer of a roaming user between visitor location registers. The standard GLR is extended by being configured with multiple addresses, has a soft shutdown procedure, has a blacklist mechanism, a searching facility for finding lost roaming users, and has a mechanism for overcoming ambiguities in local identification numbers assigned by visitor location registers.

Abstract: Roaming usage management apparatus for managing roaming mobile devices connected to roaming networks. The management apparatus includes a data gathering application for gathering roaming activity data, a database application, which aggregates the records into activity logs of calls per roaming device, and an output unit which sends outputs to or concerning respective roaming devices, in order to manage them based on activity levels or kinds of activity recorded in the logs. The embodiments thus provide management of roaming devices. The management is per roaming device, preferably real time, and may be used to leverage takeup of roaming services.

Abstract: A client for inclusion in a mobile telephony apparatus barred from international roaming usage, to allow roaming operation thereof according to conditions determined at a home network, the client being configured with: an activation unit configured to switch said client between active and passive states, and a call control unit, operative in said active state, to communicate with a predetermined node at said home network, to facilitate control of said mobile telephony apparatus using said home network determined conditions. There is also provided a server component at the home network to support the client. The system allows CAMEL type services when a prepaid roaming user is roaming in a non-CAMEL enabled network, and even allows these services to be provided when the home network lacks CAMEL enablement.

Abstract: System for automatic callback to a roaming user in response to the dialing of a destination number by the roaming user to connect the roaming user to the destination number without the expense of a mobile originated call, comprises: a roaming network based triggering unit for generating a trigger in response to the dialing of a destination number; a disconnection unit which disconnects the roaming user in the event of receiving the trigger, and a callback unit for placing a call between the caller and callee from the home network. Typically the call is made of two simultaneous calls one to each and connecting therebetween. The network based triggers may be Camel triggers.

Abstract: Apparatus for identification of locations within a cellular network subject to loss of roaming users, comprises a monitoring unit for monitoring International controlling signaling of the cellular network, a register for registering cancel signals associated with roaming cellular telephones leaving the cellular network, and a query unit, for responding to the cancel signals by issuing a query to identify a current cell location of the cellular telephone. The cell locations indicated can then be aggregated to show where there are problems with leakage of roaming users.

Abstract: Apparatus and method for management of optimal voicemail deposit to the voicemail of a currently roaming mobile telephony user during late call forwarding, is located at the user's home network and includes a disconnection unit for disconnecting an international link upon detection of late call forwarding; a triggering unit that ensures that a trigger signal is available for triggering the passing of control of the call to allow direct forwarding of the caller to the voicemail; and a direct forwarding unit that receives the control and carries out the forwarding. Generally the roaming user only generates a single trigger, and this causes difficulties if multiple services need triggering for the same call, such as a prepaid unit and the optimal voicemail deposit. The disclosure teaches methods which when used in combination provide a system that can operate at the home network irrespective of the configuration of the roaming network.

Abstract: A method for challenge-based authentication of a communication entity to an access network. The access network uses a password-based communication protocol. The method comprises a) pre-supplying to the communication entity a challenge, thereby allowing the communication entity to provide a challenge response, b) supplying to the communication entity a password request, c) receiving the challenge response via the password request, and d) authenticating the communication entity if the challenge response is correct. Presupplying may be during a previous IP session, wherein communication entities are simply given challenges for next time they connect to the hotspot. Alternatively presupplying could be during a brief probationary connection that the access network gives to its users.

Abstract: A method and a system for providing services to roaming subscribers of mobile telephone networks. The system comprising a packet-switch network and intelligent gateways coupled to the packet-switch network enables roaming subscribers to continue using their value added services using familiar access, interface and language. The system also enables mobile operators to deliver new services to roamers and subscribers.

Abstract: An anti-fraud system for controlling fraudulent activity at a cellular telephone roaming networks. The system comprises a fraud management unit that is configured to monitor telephony activity on the network, detect fraudulent patterns within the activity and take action to manage detected fraudulent activity. The system further comprises a roaming signaling interrogation unit that is associated with the fraud management unit. The roaming signaling interrogation unit is configured to monitor signaling indicative of roaming connections set up by subscribers of the cellular network from other networks and to forward information of the roaming to the fraud management unit. Such forwarding allows the fraud management unit to manage detected fraudulent activity amongst the roaming connections.

Abstract: A cellular data communication interfacing apparatus, for association with a mobile network and for supporting cellular data communication to roaming mobile telephony devices, comprises a data request analyzer, a service network selector, and an interfacing engine. Each of the roaming telephony devices is associated with a respective home network and a service profile specifying service networks providing data services to the device. The data request analyzer analyzes data requests from the roaming mobile. The service network selector uses the request analyses together with the device service profiles to select a corresponding service network. The interfacing engine introduces the devices to the service networks, directs the data requests to the service networks, and directs the corresponding data responses from the service networks to the requesting roaming mobile devices.

The system includes a home intelligent gateway (106) integrated into the visited mobile network (108), and a global packet switch network (100) connected to the home intelligent gateway (106) and to the visited intelligent gateway (102). The home intelligent gateway (102) and the visited intelligent gateway (106) are configured to communicate via the global packet switch network (100) in order to manage the telephony services in real-time according to the balance.
