Abstract: An automatic power control system provides a control signal that regulates the output power of at least one laser diode. Coarse adjustment of the control signal is provided by a first means, preferably a digital variable resistor, while fine adjustment and compensation is provided by a second means, preferably by a digital-to-analog converter that receives an input signal proportional to a sensed control system parameter. The control system includes an operational amplifier having a first input coupled to sense output power, and a second input coupled to a DAC to provide finer resolution control. Memory can store system parameter or system parameter variations that can be coupled to the DAC and/or variable resistor to enhance system stability over ambient variations.

Abstract: An optoelectronic subassembly for use in fiber optic communications systems where multiple parallel optical fibers are used in transmitting and receiving optical signals. The subassembly is adapted for optically connecting with a ferrule and electrically connecting to a larger computing or communications system. The ferrule supports a set of optical communications fibers disposed in an array. The subassembly supports an optoelectronic device having a set of photoactive components also disposed in an array corresponding to the fiber array. The optoelectronic device is operative for either converting photonic signals to electrical signals (in a receiver) or electrical signals to photonic signals (in a transmitter). The optoelectronic subassembly includes a carrier which is precisely fabricated using photolithography techniques for aligning and supporting the optoelectronic device and photoactive components within it.

Abstract: The transceiver includes a housing, a transmitting optical sub-assembly mounted in the housing, a receiving optical sub-assembly mounted in the housing, a first electrical connector associated with the transmitting optical sub-assembly, a second electrical connector associated with the receiving optical sub-assembly, and an electromagnetic shield mounted on the housing. The housing includes a first fiber optic connector receptacle, a second fiber optic connector receptacle, and a first side, and the housing is made of an electrically conductive material.
