Publication number: 20030014046Abstract: An apparatus includes a first expandable member that is expandable by an expansion medium. The first expandable member includes an exterior and a plurality of apertures. The expansion medium is released from the first expandable member when a sufficient pressure is applied to the expansion medium housed in an interior of the first expandable member. A second expandable member is positioned at least partially adjacent to the first expandable member. The second expandable member is configured to receive at least a portion of the expansion medium from the interior of the first expandable member. An electromagnetic energy delivery device is coupled to one of the first or second expandable members and is configured to be coupled to a power source. The first and second expandable members are sized to be expanded sufficiently to open a sphincter.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 27, 2002Publication date: January 16, 2003Applicant: Conway-Stuart Medical, Inc.Inventors: Stuart D. Edwards, David S. Utley

Patent number: 6056744Abstract: A sphincter treatment apparatus includes an energy delivery device introduction member including a plurality of arms. Each arm has distal and proximal sections. The distal sections of the arms are coupled as are the proximal sections of the arms. The energy delivery device introduction member is configured to be introduced in the sphincter in a non-deployed state, expand to a deployed state to at least partially dilate the sphincter. A plurality of energy delivery devices are coupled to the energy delivery device introduction member. At least a portion of the plurality of energy delivery devices are controllably introducible from the energy delivery device introduction member into the sphincter.Type: GrantFiled: February 19, 1998Date of Patent: May 2, 2000Assignee: Conway Stuart Medical, Inc.Inventor: Stuart D. Patent number: 5322069Abstract: An ambulatory patient monitoring system (100) is provided for measuring and storing predetermined diagnostic parameters of a patient. The monitoring system includes a personal type computer (120) which may be selectively coupled to the portable portion (102) of system (100). Portable portion (102) may include one or more monitoring modules, such as ECG monitoring unit (110) and blood pressure monitoring unit (210). When ECG monitoring unit (110) and blood pressure monitoring unit (210) are disposed in side-by-side relationship and with respective optical interfaces (50, 254) in optical alignment, the two units operate in concert. ECG monitoring unit (110) supplies an R-wave gating signal to blood pressure monitoring unit (210) for establishing a window in which the receipt of a Korotkoff sound is expected. Additionally, the ECG unit (110) may trigger the blood pressure unit (210) to take a reading responsive to unit (110) identifying a predetermined abnormality in the ECG signal.Type: GrantFiled: May 24, 1993Date of Patent: June 21, 1994Assignee: Stuart Medical Inc.Inventors: Stuart L. Gallant, Paul R. Caron, Walter E. Palmer
