Abstract: The electrodes of the steam generator are each formed as a horizontally extending disk to receive descending water jets from a distribution chamber above the electrode as well as with openings to direct water jets downwardly onto a collecting grid. The current flows from the electrodes through the water jets to evaporate part of the water to steam. Movable interceptors are also mounted in the vessel to intercept the water jets for partial loads. Suitable means are also provided for selectively moving the interceptors into the path of the water jets at partial loads.
Abstract: The aqueous acid-containing xylose solution is first passed through an ion exchanger to remove the strong acid which was added to the raw material in the xylane hydrolysis and xylose extraction system and then subjected to evaporation in an evaporator. The evaporated water, acetic acid and formic acid of the solution is then condensed and is partly re-cycled and partly subjected to recovery processes. The concentrated xylose solution in the evaporator is then passed through a second ion exchanger to remove any traces of acetic acid or formic acid.

Abstract: The doughy bone cement mixture is formed by mixing a powder-form polymer, such as polymethylmethacrylate, with a polymerizing liquid monomer, such as a liquid monomeric methylmethacrylate, to form a water-insoluble composition and admixing this composition with a biologically-compatible high-viscosity aqueous gel to form a dispersion of the composition with the gel. The gel is soluble in water as well as in body fluids so as to dissolve out after implanting of an implant or joint end in a bone. This allows the remaining component of the cement to become porous and, thus, allows for tissue invasion over a course of time to further anchor the implant or joint end. The gel may consist of partially neutralized, carboxymethyl cellulose dissolved in water.
Abstract: The cover for a weaving machine is formed, in part, of flexible mats of sound-insulating material which can be raised or lowered in the manner of a window shade. In one embodiment, the rollers on which the flexible mats are mounted are positively driven to raise or lower the mats while a toggle means is used to support the mat over the machine frame. In addition, the rollers are mounted in a carriage which can be moved to one side while the sides of the cover are opened to allow access to the machine from above. In another embodiment, the flexible mats are in an accordion or pleated form and are raised or lowered via an endless chain.

Abstract: The holding device is formed of an elongated bar with slots to receive a base of the parts to be electroplated and contact strips in the slots to electrically contact the received parts. Resilient electrical contact-making elements are disposed in facing relation to the contact strips to clamp the parts in place and to provide an additional electrical contact. The device also includes a plastic cover over the contact bar and resilient elements to protect the bar and elements. The bar is also provided with a hook at one end for securement to a frame for electroplating.
Abstract: The powdered fuel is dosed in metered amounts by a pocketed dosing wheel into a fuel-feeding duct which is opened and closed by reciprocally mounted slider. Air is charged into the fuel feeding duct via a compressed air duct above the fuel valve. Upon opening of the fuel valve, a blast of air is charged via a control valve into the compressed air duct to expel the powdered fuel in the fuel-receiving chambers of the fuel valve.
Abstract: The binding medium employs a mixture of ethyl silicate, anhydrous solvent and organo-functional hydrophilic silicon compounds containing at least one carbon-fixed amino group. The binding medium is capable of absorbing humidity from the air to bring about hydrolysis. The binding medium is also capable of unlimited durability if stored in an air-free dry condition. A hydrophilic alcoholate of titanium may also be added to the mixture to improve hydrolysis and gelling. The binder is mixed with a refractory ceramic filler to form a ceramic shell composition.
Abstract: A cover is located over the noisiest part of the weaving machine, i.e. the shafts of the shedding mechanism and the reed and extends, at most, to the breast beam at the cloth and of the weaving machine. The cover is made of hinged members or of a flexible sheet so as to be folded out of the way when access to the shafts or reed is required.
Abstract: The regulator having a P-member and an I-member uses a timing means to delay the desired value signal prior to subtraction of the delayed signal from the received actual value signal. The resultant signal is then delivered to the I-member. A further P-member is also used to receive the desired value signal and to deliver the signal for addition to the superimposed signals from the first-named P-member and I-member in order to produce a load-control signal.
Abstract: The plant includes a precooling stage, a Joule/Thomson stage and a cryogenic load. The Joule/Thomson stage includes a pair of heat exchangers in which the helium emerging from the precooling stage is cooled by the return flow of helium. This stage also includes an expansion turbine between the heat exchangers to expand the high pressure helium to an intermediate pressure and an expansion element in which the helium is expanded to the liquefaction pressure. This expansion element is located upstream or downstream of the cryogenic load or between two parts of the cryogenic load.
Abstract: The tank wall is provided with a cylindrical collar in which a perforated tube base is mounted; the base having a set of tubes passing through in gas-tight relation. A thin sheet metal membrane is secured peripherally on the tube base to form an enclosed gas-tight chamber through which the tubes pass. The membrane is also perforated to permit passage of the tubes in a gas-tight relationship. The enclosed chamber permits monitoring of the imperviousness of the connections between the tubes and the tube base.
Abstract: The bearing surface of each piston is provided with hydrostatic pressure medium during operation to maintain the axis of the piston perpendicular to the guide surface. The pressure medium is supplied through throttle passages which terminate in feed openings at the corners or at uniformly distributed points remote from the piston axis. Cooperating guide ledges are also provided on each foot and on the guide member to prevent the piston bearing surfaces from falling away from their respective guide surfaces of the guide member.
