  • Patent number: 8110140
Abstract: In methods of manufacturing optical components for infrared-light or ultraviolet-light applications, by lessening the expense consumed during finishing processes, a technique for manufacturing ceramic optical components inexpensively is realized. Raw material powders whose main constituent is ZnS, ZnSe or Ge, for ceramics for infrared-light optical components, and whose main constituent is CaF2 or MaF2, for ceramics for ultraviolet-light optical components, are molded into molded masses; the molded masses are sintered into sinters; and by pressing the sinters through a heating and compressing process, net-shape ceramic sinters can be produced. Alternatively, a finishing process is carried out after they are pressed into near-net shape. By shaping into net shape or near-net shape, the finishing process can be omitted, or the finishing process time and processing expense taken up can be decreased.

  • Patent number: 5911484
Abstract: If the pump for antilock fluid pressure control is used as a fluid pressure source for automatic brake control, the pressure rising speed will drop, deteriorating the responsiveness of the device, or otherwise an extremely large pump-driving motor has to be used. To solve this problem, a fluid supply amplifier and a pressure-responsive valve are provided parallel to each other between a pump and a wheel brake fluid pressure control valve. A solenoid valve is closed until the output fluid pressure rises to a predetermined value to amplify the amount of fluid discharged from the pump with the fluid supply amplifier. It is thus possible to increase pressure sufficiently quickly. At the same time, it is possible to increase the output of the pump-driving motor. When the output fluid pressure exceeds the predetermined value, the pressure-responsive valve opens, so that brake fluid is now supplied directly from the pump into the wheel brake. The brake pressure can thus be increased to a high level.

  • Patent number: 5403773
Abstract: A surface emitting type of light emitting devices has a narrow emanating region near the front surface. A spherical lens is fixed on the front surface or rear surface for converging light beams to a core of an optical fiber. Prior devices determined the position of the spherical lens by forming a concavity or a set of protrusions on the rear surface. Two wafer processes were required to form the concavity or protrusions. Two wafer processes on both surfaces induced not a little positioning error. This invention does not form concavities nor protrusions on the rear surface. The rear surface is ground and left flat. Second electrode is formed on the rear surface, not hindering light to emit through. The center of the emanating region is determined by supplying current to the device and illuminating the emanating region. The emanating pattern is observed by a TV camera connected to a computer. The center of the emanating region is detected by image processing of the illuminated pattern.

  • Patent number: 5334252
Abstract: In order to enable formation of a smooth and dense oxide superconducting film with no clear appearance of grain boundaries in a fine structure even at a high film forming rate, a laser ablation method is employed to apply a laser beam 2 to a target 1 containing components of an oxide superconductive material and deposit particles, which are thus scattered from the target 1, on a substrate 3, while gaseous oxygen is supplied from a gaseous oxygen inlet 7 toward laser plasma 6, which is generated by the application of the laser beam 2.

  • Patent number: 5048280
Abstract: A high-elongation composite cord used for reinforcing a rubber composite such as a wheel tire and a conveyor belt. It is made by twisting a plurality of strands each made by twisting a plurality of brass-plated steel filaments and monofilaments of organic fiber. Before twisting the cord, monofilaments of organic fiber are put in the gaps formed between the adjacent strands so as to prevent fluidized rubber from penetrating into a center core formed in the cord after the cord has been covered with rubber. The monofilaments should have a diameter small enough not to protrude from a circle circumscribing the cord and large enough to close the gaps between the adjacent strands.

  • Patent number: 4854835
Abstract: A plunger of a plunger pump is formed with an air vent passageway having its one end open to a compression chamber and the other end adapted to communicate with a reservoir space open to the atmosphere when the plunger comes near its top dead point. Air or gas trapped in the liquid sucked into the compression chamber will flow into the air vent passageway so as to be discharged into the reservoir space when the passageway gets into communication with it. Since air or gas is removed from the compression chamber, the pumping efficiency is prevented from decreasing.
