Abstract: New compositions of matter comprising cyano-substituted metal complexes of porphyrins are catalysts for the oxidation of alkanes. The metal is iron, chromium, manganese, ruthenium, copper or cobalt. The porphyrin ring has cyano groups attached thereto in meso and/or .beta.-pyrrolic positions.
Abstract: New catalyst compositions comprise sulfated and calcined mixtures of (1) a support comprising an oxide or hydroxide of a Group IV-A element, (2) an oxide or hydroxide of molybdenum, and (3) an oxide or hydroxide of a Group I-B, II-B, III-A, III-B, IV-B, V-A or VI-A metal other than molybdenum or a metal of the Lanthanide Series of the Periodic Table. A process for alkylation of acyclic saturated compounds with acyclic unsaturated compounds utilizing such catalyst compositions.

Abstract: A compass assembly comprising a base, a dial member received in a recessed portion of the base and rotatable relative the base about a dial member central longitudinal axis, and a compass housing received in a recessed portion of the dial member and fixedly secured to the base by a connecting disk. The disk has a first surface attached to the housing and a second surface attached to the base and a peripheral edge surface positioned in frictionally engaging contact with the dial member. The dial member is biased against rotation relative the base and the compass housing by the disk.
Abstract: A coin-controlled atomizer dispensing system is actuated entirely by compressed air or gas. At the conclusion of an operating cycle a cylinder is charged with liquid to be dispensed. The next operating cycle is initiated by inserting a coin which momentarily opens an air valve. A charge of compressed air and a charge of liquid are simultaneously fed to an atomizer nozzle until the charge of liquid in the cylinder has been completely dispensed whereupon the compressed air is cut off and the cycle is terminated by re-charging the cylinder with the next charge of liquid to be dispensed.

Abstract: Measured quantities of liquid, such as suntan oil or lotion, are dispensed to a user upon insertion of one or more coins into a coin-controlled timer. The coin-controlled timer, such as a timer-relay, applies electrical current to control a valve-controlled air supply to an atomizing nozzle. The timer system further controls the liquid supply by utilizing the air supply to actuate air valves.
Abstract: In order to achieve airborne exploration for minerals in which both color and size information is obtained from fluorescing targets, a pulsed ultraviolet source is directed downwardly from the aircraft to a target area, and light from any responsively fluorescing discrete target is passed through receiving optics which includes a plurality of choppers of different fineness. A multiply-chopped signal is passed through a light pipe which includes filters to separate the signal into a plurality of electronic channels according to the respective color components. Signals are further processed by division into a plurality of parallel paths according to chopper frequency and applied to a series of integrators which are specially configured to remove noise from several sources to markedly improve the signal to noise ratio. The data thus obtained is stored, along with time and position information, onto conventional digital recording means for subsequent retrieval and analysis.

Abstract: Organometallic complexes formed between hexaalkylphosphoramides (HAPA) and metal salts, including rare earth metals, have been found to be effective catalyst for the oxidation of secondary and tertiary alkylaromatics to form valuable oxidation products, particularly the corresponding hydroperoxides. Novel complexes formed between HAPA and metal salts of the lanthanide series have been found to be especially effective in the selective formation of the hydroperoxides at high conversion rates. By substantially increasing the agitation and/or aeration of the reaction medium it is possible to increase these high conversion rates still further.
