  • Patent number: 4287884
Abstract: A knee brace including an elastic sleeve stretchable in a circumferential direction, a plurality of individual pad mounts permanently fixed to the interior of the sleeve which are disposed in a generally circular array to surround a substantial portion of the wearer's patella, and at least one resilient pad selectively removably engageable with different of said individual pad mounts for selectively removably mounting the pad at different positions relative to the wearer's patella to provide patella support at selectively variable positions as dictated by the individual needs of the wearer.

  • Patent number: 4287885
Abstract: A knee brace including an elastic sleeve stretchable circumferentially, a flexible sheet non-stretchable in a circumferential direction secured to the interior of the sleeve configured and dimensioned to surround a substantial portion of the user's patella, and a resilient pad stretchable at least circumferentially secured to the flexible inelastic sheet. By reason of the inelastic characteristics of the flexible sheet to which the resilient elastic pads are mounted, the pads are not circumferentially displaced or dislocated from their normal position proximate the periphery of the patella when the knee is bent and the elastic sleeve stretches circumferentially. Thus, patella support and protection is maintained regardless of the extent of knee flexure.

  • Patent number: 4201203
Abstract: A knee brace is disclosed including an elastic sleeve configured to snugly embrace the user's knee region. The sleeve is provided with an opening in the front for the patella. A drawstring slidable in a two-way stretch elastic casing stitched to the margin of the opening facilitates adjustment of the circumference of the opening to snugly engage patellas of different sizes and/or shapes. Lateral pads disposed on either side of the patella opening and a vertical pad disposed above the opening are also included. Adjustable fasteners between the pads and the sleeve interior permit the horizontal spacing between the lateral pads and the center of the kneecap opening and the vertical spacing between the upper pad and the center of the kneecap opening to be varied to accommodate different sized patellas.

  • Patent number: 4166460
Abstract: An ankle protector for inhibiting lateral ankle bending motion assoicated with strains including an elastic stocking dimensioned and configured to snugly embrace the instep, heel, and ankle of the wearer; a semi-rigid heel cup positioned within the stocking in the heel region thereof, which is dimensioned and configured to snugly embrace the heel of the user; and a pair of elongated stays secured to opposite sides of the stocking which have their lower ends pinned to opposite sides of the heel cup to facilitate pivotal motion thereof with respect to the heel cup only about an axis parallel to the axis about which the ankle flexes in normal walking or running activity. To enhance the lateral support, a pair of straps are provided, each having one end secured to the bottom of the stocking, which are adapted to encircle the instep and ankle of the wearer in criss-cross fashion.

  • Patent number: 4143663
Abstract: A trunk-encircling garment for providing sacro-lumbar support having a vertical slit in the central lower front panel thereof flanked on either side with fasteners for either maintaining the slit in a closed position to produce a girdle style garment, or connecting to one end of a removable crotch panel the other end of which connects to the rear of the garment to produce a panty style garment. Elastic inserts in the garment proximate the lower edge thereof assure snug thigh-encircling action when the removable crotch panel is attached and the garment converted to a panty style.

  • Patent number: 4088130
Abstract: A hinge for a knee brace including upper and lower pivotally connected hinge elements. The upper hinge element is provided with inner and outer arcuate notches centered at different radii from the hinge pivot point. The slots cooperate with a stationary pin and a selectively positionable moveable pin on the lower hinge element. Depending on the position of the moveable pin, the hinge elements are either locked at an angle of 180.degree. or their angulation limited to pivotal movement within a preselected variable range, such as, 135.degree.-180.degree., 90.degree.-180.degree., 45.degree.-180.degree., etc.

  • Patent number: 4072308
Abstract: A portable forearm exerciser including a U-shaped frame which can be removably secured to the upper edge of a door, a bracket adjustable vertically with respect to a depending leg of the frame, a hand-manipulated weight-elevating bar rotatably mounted in the bracket, a bag selectively fillable with varying amounts of water, and a cable guiding over the upper end of the frame proximate the top of the door which connects at its opposite ends to the weighted bag and the rotatable bar to facilitate raising and lowering the bag as the bar is rotated in opposite directions by the user to reel and unreel the cable.

  • Patent number: 3970081
Abstract: A support to be worn on the arm near the elbow joint for reducing pain in the elbow joint associated with the condition of tennis elbow. The support includes a tubular sleeve of one-way stretch fabric. An inelastic strap is stitched to the sleeve and encircles the arm. The strap passes through a metal loop and carries Velcro members for adjustably tensioning the strap and securing its end in place. A reversible pressure pad with one flat side and one dimpled side is located in a pocket in the sleeve disposed radially inwardly of the loop.
