  • Patent number: 7004946
Abstract: An acetabular cup impactor particularly suited for minimally invasive surgical procedures includes a handle, a shaft assembly and a coupler connectable to an acetabular cup. The shaft assembly includes a hollow outer shaft and a flexible drive shaft disposed in the outer shaft. The flexible drive shaft is connected at one end to the coupler, and at an opposite end to a thumb wheel, such that rotation of the thumb wheel rotates the drive shaft and operates the coupler. The shaft assembly is curved to bypass anatomical structures intervening between a surgical incision and the acetabulum of a patient.

  • Patent number: 6890336
Abstract: A surgical cutter for use as an orthopedic reamer includes a shaft, a head, a modular blade member and a threaded retainer member. The shaft has a shaft end and a shaft bore located in the shaft end, at least a portion of the shaft bore being threaded. The head is coupled with the shaft proximate the shaft end, the head being configured for retaining debris The modular blade member is mounted on the head, the modular blade having a primary blade surface and at least one blade tooth extending from the primary blade surface The primary blade surface is substantially planar, and the modular blade member further has a centrally located blade mounting hole therein. The threaded retainer member extends through the blade mounting hole and operatively mating with the shaft bore, and the threaded retainer member further includes a retainer edge at a distal end thereof. The retainer edge is biased against the primary blade surface proximate the blade mounting hole.

  • Patent number: 6866667
Abstract: A patellar milling clamp is provided with a depth control for limiting and controlling the milling depth of a grater rotated against a bone secured in the milling clamp. A stop ring is provided on a shaft of the milling tool. The shaft is slidable in a guide bushing of the milling clamp, and a rotatable cap on the guide bushing is selectively engaged in notches in the guide bushing to provide an abutment surface at selectively different elevations. Further advancement of the tool is prevented when the stop ring abuts the abutment surface of the cap. The depth of milling is precisely controlled regardless of the original thickness of the patellar bone being milled.

  • Patent number: 6854742
Abstract: A tool driver including a shaft having a longitudinal axis and opposite ends. A first partial boss is located at one of the shaft ends, a tool collet at the other of these shaft ends, and a second partial boss having a bore extending therethrough. The second partial boss being positioned on the shaft with the shaft in the bore. There is a stop on the shaft. The second partial boss is slidable on the shaft between the first partial boss and the stop. A spring is positioned between the second partial boss and the stop. The spring urges the second partial boss into engagement with the first partial boss. The first and second partial bosses are complementary to each other and are in engagement with each other defining a bayonet type latch mechanism. The latch mechanism has an axially extending inwardly tapered bore extending from one end coaxially of the shaft into the first and second bosses.
