Patent number: 7033627Abstract: A method of catalyzing in vitro reactions using seeds containing enhanced amounts of enzymes is disclosed. The method involves adding transgenic, non-wild type seeds, preferably in a ground form, to a reaction mixture, especially a bakery process and allowing the enzymes in the seeds to increase the rate of reaction. By directly adding the seeds to the reaction mixture the method provides a solution to the expensive and problematic process of extracting and purifying the enzyme. Methods of treatment are also provided whereby a subject lacking a sufficient supply of an enzyme is administered the enzyme in the form of seeds containing enhanced amounts of the enzyme.Type: GrantFiled: February 2, 1998Date of Patent: April 25, 2006Assignees: Syngenta Mogen B.V., Gist-Brocades N.V.Inventors: Albert Johannes Joseph Van Ooyen, Krijn Rietveld, Wilhelmus Johannes Quax, Jan Pen, Andreas Hoekema, Peter Christiaan Sijmons, Teunis Cornelis Verwoerd

Patent number: 6864076Abstract: The present invention provides an isolated protein obtainable from a plant source which has antifungal activity, specifically anti-Phytophthora activity and/or anti-Pythium activity and a molecular weight of about 55-65 kDa as judged by SDS PAGE-electrophoresis, an isolated DNA sequence comprising an open reading frame capable of encoding a protein according to the invention, preferably characterized in that it comprises an open reading frame which is capable of encoding a protein depicted in SEQ ID NO. 16, SEQ ID NO. 57, SEQ ID NO. 70, SEQ ID NO. 72 or SEQ ID NO. 74 or muteins thereof, and DNA capable of hybridizing therewith under stringent conditions. The invention further comprises plants incorporating chimeric DNA capable of encoding a protein according to the invention, and wherein the protein is expressed. Also shown is the carbohydrate and preferably hexose oxidating activity of said protein.Type: GrantFiled: February 25, 1999Date of Patent: March 8, 2005Assignee: Syngenta Mogen B.V.Inventors: Maarten Hendrik Stuiver, Jerome Hubertus Henricus Victor Custers, Marianne Beatrix Sela-Buurlage, Leo Sjoerd Melchers, Wessel Lageweg, Anne Silene Ponstein, Johanna Pieternella Els Van Deventer-Troost

Patent number: 6660910Abstract: This invention is concerned with the use of cyanamide hydratase as a selection marker in plant transformation. Cyanamide acts as a herbicide and plants transformed with the gene coding for cyanamide hydratase are able to convert the cyanamide into urea which enables the selection of transformed plants by survival under cyanamide pressure.Type: GrantFiled: October 15, 1999Date of Patent: December 9, 2003Assignee: Syngenta Mogen B.V.Inventor: Brigitte Damm

Patent number: 6603064Abstract: The present invention is directed to the production of male sterile plants by providing them with a recombinant DNA capable of specific expression in the male reproductive system of a plant of the enzyme trehalose phosphate (TPP). Resotration of the fertility can be established either by providing said male sterile plants with a recombinant DNA capable of expression of trehalose phosphate synthase (TPS) under control of an inducible promoter or with a recombinant DNA capable of expression of a suppressor protein which suppresses expression of TPP under control of an inducible promoter. This inducible restoration possibilities enable the maintenance of a homozygous male sterile line. Restoration can also be done by spraying the male sterile plants with gibberellic acid.Type: GrantFiled: July 21, 2000Date of Patent: August 5, 2003Assignee: Syngenta Mogen B.V.Inventors: Cornelis Maria Petrus Van Dun, Oscar Johannes Maria Goddijn

Patent number: 6291647Abstract: The present invention provides an isolated protein obtainable from a plant source which has anti-Phytophthora activity and a molecular weight of about 60±5 kDa as judged by SDS PAGE-electrophoresis, an isolated DNA sequence comprising an open reading frame capable of encoding a protein according to the invention, preferably characterized in that it comprises an open reading frame which is capable of encoding a protein as represented by amino acids 1 to 540 of SEQ ID NO: 6, or the precursor of said protein, and DNA capable of hybridising therewith under stringent conditions. The invention further comprises plants incorporating chimeric DNA capable of encoding a protein according to the invention, and wherein the protein is expressed. Also methods are provided for combatting fungi, especially Phytophthora infestans, using a protein or a host cell capable of producing the protein.Type: GrantFiled: November 20, 1996Date of Patent: September 18, 2001Assignee: Syngenta Mogen B.V.Inventors: Leo Sjoerd Melchers, Anne Silene Ponstein, Saskia Kroon-Swart, Johanna Pieternella Els Van Deventer-Troost, Stephan Andreas Ohl, Alexandra Aleida Bres-Vloemans, Jürgen Logemann, Marianne Beatrix Sela-Buurlage
