    Abstract: A canister for releasing oil additives into oil in an internal combustion engine, hydraulic equipment, or automatic transmission includes a container having an inlet, outlet, and interior volume. Partitions divide the interior volume into a plurality of different individual compartments, and a plurality of discrete shapes of thermoplastic material with oil property improving additives are disposed within at least a plurality of the individual compartments. The partitions may comprise a metal grid, the container may be disc-shaped with perforated end walls, and the container desirably fits between the engine block and a conventional oil filter. Alternatively the container may comprise an elongated tube having first and second end faces with the partition comprising disc-shaped elements extending in a plane substantially transverse to the dimension of elongation of the container.

    Abstract: An oil reclamation system flow meter for measuring the flow rate of a oil through the system wherein a housing forms a first chamber that leads through a constricted lower outlet into a second chamber and the second chamber. The first chamber also includes an intermediate outlet above the lower outlet and an upper outlet above the intermediate outlet. Both the intermediate and upper outlets flow into a duct that opens into the second chamber at a lower end. Oil flows through an inlet into the first chamber and through the lower outlet when the rate is below an ideal rate range, through both the lower outlet and the intermediate outlet when the rate is within the ideal range and through all three outlets when the rate exceeds the ideal range. A viewing conduit indicates the level of oil inside the first chamber and thereby indicates flow rate.

    Abstract: An oil reclamation device includes an evaporator head and base both of heat conductive material and defining an evaporator chamber between them. An upwardly vertically extending heating element is disposed within the evaporator base for heating oil containing contaminants within the evaporator chamber by conduction and convection to evaporate light contaminants/liquids (e.g. water, fuel or antifreeze) in the oil. A vent extends from the evaporator chamber through the head, and an oil discharge conduit provides gravity discharge from the evaporator chamber and is formed in the base. An oil inlet conduit feeds oil from the head toward the evaporator chamber, preferably through a plurality of substantially evenly spaced passages formed in the head and flaring outwardly from the oil inlet conduit to the evaporator chamber to provide flow of oil in small, distinct, spaced streams to impact a portion of a generally annular frustoconical wall element extending upwardly form the base toward the head.

    Abstract: An oil filter utilizes a thermoplastic material having oil oxidation and acidification arresting additives mounted in a casing between a particle filtering material (such as cotton fibers) and a felt pad. The thermoplastic material is desirably high molecular polypropylene in the form of rice-shaped pellets, or spaghetti-shaped strands. The additives comprise about 10-17 weight % of the thermoplastic material/additive combination, and as the thermoplastic material is dissolved by above ambient temperature oil, the additives are released. The thermoplastic material pellets or strands are formed by mixing anti-oxidation and anti-acidification additives with liquid thermoplastic material to form a mixture, extruding the mixture into spaghetti like strands having a thickness of about 0.0625-0.125 inches, cooling the strands, cutting the strands into discrete elements, and then placing the discrete elements into an oil filter held in place to contact oil and to gradually dissolve to release the additives.
