Abstract: The present invention provides a method for decreasing the level of methylation of Oct4 promoter in a target cell, comprising transfecting the target cell with the combination of Oct4 cDNA and SirT1 cDNA. The invention also provides a method for inducing cytoprotective responses of a target cell, comprising transfecting the target cell with the combination of Oct4 cDNA and SirT1 cDNA. The invention further provides a pharmaceutical composition comprising Oct4 cDNA and SirT1 cDNA, or a polynucleotide comprising Oct4 cDNA and SirT1 cDNA.

Abstract: The present invention is based on the findings that a novel function for miR142-3p in the regulation of Sox2, adenylyl cyclase 9 (AC9), and CD133 expressions, and consequently the overall stemness of recurrent GBM cells as well as CSCs, and that miR142-3p modulated tumor-initiating properties in recurrent GBM. The present invention consequently supports the development of novel miRNA-based strategies for brain tumor treatment.
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a controlled release particle comprising a therapeutically effective amount of acid fibroblast growth factor (aFGF), entrapped by a particle composed by a biocompatible anionic biopolymer capable of binding to aFGF, and a cationic polymer. The method for manufacturing the controlled release particle and the method of using the particle for treating nervous injury are also provided.
Abstract: The invention relates to a device for selecting stem cells with a serum free medium for amplification of stem cells. The invention also relates to a method of treating or preventing diseases caused by cancer-related stem cells. The invention further provides a method of enhancing radiosensitivity of cancer-related stem cells comprising radiotherapy with resveratrol, and the cancer-related stem cell has stronger drug resistance. The present invention further provides that resveratrol promotes differentiation and inhibits teratoma/tumor formation in induced pluripotent stem cells (iPS) and embryonic stem cells.

Abstract: A composite comprising a stem cell; a biodegradable layer, which can provide an environment for the stem cell to grow and to differentiate, and; a N-isopropylacrylamide (NIPAAm), which can polymerize with the biodegradable layer and possess the temperature-responsive character for easy stripping. The present invention further provides a method for treating a patient with a skin defect, consisting of (a) providing said patient with a composite consisting of a N-isopropylacrylamide (NIPAAm) layer polymerized with a biodegradable layer containing gelatin and a layer of polypropylene (PP) non-woven, wherein a bone marrow derived mononuclear cell with CD45 negative and glycophorin A negative is cultivating on the biodegradable layer; (b) covering said composite on the skin defect of the patient; and (c) treating the composite with water below 25° C. to strip off the layer of polypropylene (PP) non-woven.

Abstract: A composite comprising a stem cell; a biodegradable layer, which can provide an environment for the stem cell to grow and to differentiate, and; a N-isopropylacrylamide (NIPAAm), which can polymerize with the biodegradable layer and possess the temperature-responsive character for easy stripping. This invention also provides a method of treating a subject with a skin defect by covering the composite of the present invention on the skin defect of the subject in need of such treatment. Furthermore, using this composite with different growth factors, stem cells can be induced to differentiate into skin-related, neuronal cells, neuron, and insulin-positive cells in biodegradable scaffolds as well as transplanted graft. Finally, this invention also provides a quick and convenient method of monitoring cell growth or tissue engineering in an animal.
