Abstract: A method of, and equipment for, providing at the sea bed at a deep water site an installation for extracting oil or gas and comprising an anchored base structure and a column extending from the base structure to above the surface and made up of telescopically arranged column sections.
Abstract: Oil and gas extraction from deep water sites. Various structures and equipment are described, including vessels for oil/gas storage beneath the surface and/or conduction to the surface, concrete being extensively used in the construction of the structures. A joint is described that articulately connects a structure to the sea bed or to another structure.
Abstract: A temporary platform encircling a concrete pressure vessel carries endless rails on which a mobile unit runs. The unit has a supply drum from which is drawn pre-stressing wire anchored at its free end in one of many channels in the outside wall of the vessel. The wire leaves the unit via a tensioning unit and a payout sheave both carried by the mobile unit. Hoist ropes fixed at intervals around the platform and connected to winches lift and lower the platform to locate the sheave at the level of each channel in turn.

Abstract: In a nuclear reactor installation comprising a fluid-cooled nuclear heat source within a primary pressure vessel, this latter and also auxiliary facilities including new and spent fuel stores are enveloped together within an outer envelope which is designed to afford protection from external missiles; but within this envelope the auxiliary facilities are isolated from the primary pressure vessel by pressure tight structure which, with the major part of the outer envelope, constitutes secondary containment means of the installation.

Abstract: A seal for maintaining closure between a hollow cylindrical member and an end member closing the cylindrical member, the seal accommodating radial movement of the cylindrical member and movement of the end member in the direction at right angles to such radial movement.
Abstract: A prestressed concrete container having a chamber therein and a removable concrete member closing the chamber and held in its chamber-closing position by primary and secondary hold-down means each comprising members held fast with the concrete of the container and with the secondary hold-down members passing through the concrete of the closure member.
