Abstract: A support cushion cover assembly for removing humidity and heat from a contact surface of a support cushion is provided. The support cushion cover assembly comprises a support cushion cover that includes an upper panel having a top surface, a bottom surface, and a middle spacer layer positioned between the top surface and the bottom surface. The support cushion cover further includes an amount of hygroscopic material and at least one flexible tube that defines a plurality of fenestrations. Each fenestration is in fluid communication with the middle spacer layer of the upper panel. An air pump is further included in the cover assembly and is operably connected to the flexible tube, such that an amount of air is delivered into the flexible tube and the middle spacer layer of the cover. Methods for removing humidity from a contact surface of a support cushion are also provided.
Abstract: A cover assembly for a mattress is provided that includes a first cover and a second cover. The first cover includes a top panel, a bottom panel, and a continuous side panel collectively defining a cavity for enclosing the mattress. The second cover includes a top surface and a bottom surface, with the second cover being positioned over and dimensionally-sized to cover at least the top panel of the first cover. A fastener then connects the second cover to the first cover along the perimeter of the second cover. Methods for marking a mattress are also provided that include the step of marking an indicia indicative of a characteristic of a mattress on the top surface of the second cover of the cover assembly.

Abstract: A support cushion is provided for dissipating heat away from the support cushion. The support cushion includes a body supporting portion and a base portion that is positioned below the body supporting portion. The base portion defines a channel that extends through the base portion and that is in fluid communication with the body supporting portion. A fan is further included in the support cushion and is operably connect to the channel of the base portion, such that the fan is positioned and configured to move an amount of air through the channel and dissipate heat away from the body supporting portion. Methods of dissipating heat away from a support cushion are also provided.
Abstract: A support cushion is provided that makes use of a blend of materials for providing comfort and support to the body of a user. The support cushion includes a filling comprised of a plurality of fibers and a plurality of flexible foam fragments. A sleeve comprised of a flexible foam is also included in the support cushion and encapsulates the filling.
Abstract: A foam composite includes a matrix and a plurality of fibers embedded in the matrix. The matrix can include viscoelastic foam. Also disclosed herein are methods of manufacturing such a foam composite.
Abstract: A support cushion for providing individualized heating and cooling to a user resting on the support cushion is provided. The support cushion includes a body supporting portion, a plurality of thermoelectric elements positioned and configured to selectively provide heating or cooling of the body supporting portion, and a heat dissipating portion that is comprised of a thermally-absorbent material and is operably connected to the thermoelectric elements. Methods of controlling a surface temperature of a support cushion are also provided.
Abstract: A mattress assembly includes a first layer of viscoelastic foam defining an upper surface, and a second layer of non-viscoelastic foam supporting the first layer. The mattress assembly also includes a plurality of spring elements positioned beneath the upper surface for enhancing a firmness of the combined first and second layers. Each of the spring elements includes a first spring having a first spring rate and a second spring having a second spring rate different than the first spring rate.

Abstract: An adjustable bed foundation comprises an outer support structure including a head rail, a foot rail, and two parallel side rails. A first pair of cross members extends perpendicularly between the parallel side rails, while a second pair of cross members extends perpendicularly between the first pair of cross members. An articulating frame, which includes a stationary section and a rotating head section pivotally connected to the stationary section, is secured to the second pair of cross members such that the rotating head section extends towards the head rail. The adjustable bed foundation also includes a platform secured to the articulating frame. Adjustable bed assemblies are further provided and include a mattress positioned atop the platform of the adjustable bed foundation.

Abstract: Retainer bar assemblies are provided for use is an adjustable base of a support cushion. The retainer bar assemblies include a retainer bar having a horizontal rod and two legs connected to the horizontal rod with an end portion that extends from each leg in a direction substantially parallel to the horizontal rod. The retainer bar assemblies further include a pair of brackets where each bracket defines at least one channel for receiving the end portion of the two legs. Each channel has a vertical segment and an angled segment such that each channel is configured to allow the horizontal rod to be moved upward and rotated away from each bracket. Adjustable support cushions or bed assemblies that include the retainer bar assemblies are also provided.
