Abstract: A Method and an apparatus for measuring the mass and/or moisture of the contents of incompletely filled capsules, containing, in particular, medicinal products, pharmaceutical products, vitamins and similar products, with the aid of microwaves is disclosed. The displacement of the resonant frequency and broadening of the resonance curve caused by the capsules in at least one resonator is determined and evaluated. Measurements are made integrated over the whole capsule as well as with high local resolution for various portions and cross sections of the capsule.
Abstract: An apparatus for the measurement of mass and/or moisture of dielectric objects, with an analysing unit, at least one high frequency generator, at least one high frequency detector and with a high frequency resonator, wherein the at least one high frequency generator can generate at least two modes which are independent from each other, having different resonance frequencies in the resonator, the at least one high frequency detector can measure the occurring frequencies for each mode in the resonator, and the analysing unit can determine a shift of the resonance frequency (A) and a change of the resonance curve for the measured frequencies in each mode, and can calculate the mass and/or moisture of the dielectric object from the determined values for the shift of the resonance frequency (A) and the change of the resonance curve.
Abstract: A filter rod measuring station is equipped with measuring devices which measure at least the mass (M) of a filter rod and the draw resistance (PD) of the filter rod, and a microwave measuring device is provided for measuring the mass of the softener and/or the moisture content and/or the dry mass of the filter rod.

Abstract: Apparatus and method for determining the triacetin content in cigarette filter plugs during the manufacture of the filter plugs from a filter tow. The apparatus including a filter tow storage container, a filter tow stretching device, a device for feeding triacetin, to the filter tow, a plug-forming device, a device for dividing the plug into portions, a first microwave sensor disposed downstream of the plug-forming device, and a second microwave sensor disposed upstream of the feed device for the triacetin. The triacetin content is determined by transmitting a high frequency electromagnetic field through the filter plug both before and after the triacetin is added and measuring the frequency shift and spread of the electromagnetic field to determine mass signals At and A0, respectivley. A0 is compared to At to calculate the triacetin content of the filter plug.
Abstract: The method of detecting foreign bodies in continuous mass streams of fibrous material, strand-like material or material similar to bulk goods with the aid of microwaves, in which the mass flow is led through the field of a microwave resonator and in which the change (A) in the resonant frequency, effected by the material, and the change (B) in the width of the resonance curve of the microwave resonator is determined, is distinguished in that the ratio (B/A) of the changes is evaluated and compared with corresponding averages, and the presence of a foreign body is reported when the ratio differs from the averages by more than a predefined value.

Abstract: A device for testing the quality of rope-like materials in the form of yarns, rollings, fiber bands and the like employs a microwave resonator and devices for determining the displacement of the resonant frequency and the widening of the resonance curve due to the rope-like material present in the microwave resonator. Mechanical devices are provided for transporting the rope-like materials through the measuring volume of the microwave resonator. The microwave field is homogeneous in the measuring volume and the measuring device is a microwave generator constructed for measuring the mass per length and the moisture of the rope-like materials. Sensitivity of the device is improved by using metallic elements to concentrate the electromagnetic field in the measuring volume.
Abstract: The device for measuring the mass and/or the moisture of a material running through a spinning preparation machine is distinguished in that it has a microwave resonator (15, 18) and associated adapted measurement electronics. The method for measuring the mass and/or the moisture of a material running through a spinning preparation machine is distinguished in that the measurement is carried out with the aid of microwaves.
