  • Publication number: 20090195459
Abstract: An antenna printed on a dielectric substrate having a radiating element and a transmission line printed on a front surface of the dielectric substrate and a ground element printed on a back surface of the dielectric substrate. The radiating element has a tapered shape with a narrow end connected to a first end of the transmission line, and two opposing edges of the radiating element contiguous to the transmission line. The radiating element further has a v-shaped notch distal from the first end of the transmission line wherein a broader end of the v-shaped notch having two opposing ends contiguous to the opposing edges of the radiating element thereby forming a two symmetrical lobes which diverge with increasing distance from the first end of the transmission line. The opposing edges of the radiating element further having a plurality of serrations along its length thereby forming a slow wave structure for signal propagating along the edges.

  • Publication number: 20090040764
Abstract: There is disclosed a method and apparatus for successively and repeatedly illuminating a number of remote areas collectively defining a larger area with light in the form of a beam or beams to induce a physiological blink response or optical blink reflex in the illuminated eye of an animal (e.g., a human) within the area being illuminated. Each area being intermittently illuminated long enough to induce a blink response from an animal (e.g. human) subject there, after which another area(s) is illuminated in the meantime while illumination of the initial area is not required since the subject(s) there would still be recovering from their blink response.

  • Publication number: 20090027255
Abstract: A signal processing system for use in pulse-Doppler radar, arranged to receive frequency domain signals for each of a plurality of Doppler bins for each range cell, comprising a data processor arranged successively to threshold each Doppler bin signal under test relative to a local average of signals formed over plural Doppler bins and/or plural ranges adjacent to the Doppler bin under test, using a variable thresholding factor, and using the thresholding result as an indication of the presence of an object of interest; the data processor using a pulse-Doppler constant false alarm rate control process to set and reset the variable thresholding factor using closed loop feedback by counting the indications of presence and incrementing or decrementing the variable thresholding factor for each thresholding result by comparing the frequency of these counts with a predetermined probability of false alarms; whereby the constant false alarm rate thresholding is a function of the range and the Doppler frequency of the

  • Publication number: 20070250904
Abstract: A method and system is disclosed for enforcing at least one privacy policy in relation to user data, the system comprising: a user system, a broker system, and a service provider system, the user system being operable to: encrypt the user data using a symmetric encryption algorithm and an encryption key generated in dependence on said at least one privacy policy and a master key associated with the user system; and transmit the encrypted user data to the service provider in the form of a digital container that includes the encrypted user data and said at least one privacy policy; and the broker system being operable to: receive a request from the service provider to access the user data, the request including said at least one privacy policy; verify that the request complies with said at least one privacy policy; and if so, regenerate the encryption key in dependence on the master key and at least one privacy policy supplied by the service provider, whereby the service provider system is able to decrypt the u

  • Publication number: 20070194982
Abstract: An antenna comprises at least one accelerometer capable of monitoring mechanical vibration. Associated signal processing means provides a transfer function which is used to convert signals received from the accelerometer into an error estimate, which can then be subtracted from signals received from the antenna.
