  • Patent number: 9695573
Abstract: A system for uncovering a trench. The system comprises several subsystems, including a work machine and a frame for providing a seal with the surface to be trenched with a saw blade contained therein. The blade is supported on a hub which is slidably movable relative to the frame by operation of a linear actuator, which may be a hydraulic cylinder or the like. The vertical location of the blade within the frame is continuously adjustable to create a deeper or shallower trench. A monitoring system is provided to monitor the vertical location from an operator station.

  • Patent number: 9662599
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a drilling fluid reclaimer. The reclaimer has at least one adjustable screen assembly for providing a leveling filter for reclaimed drill fluid. Used drill fluid is placed at the screen assembly at the front the of the screen assembly. The at least one screen is vibrated to separate large particulate matter from liquid drilling fluid. A second screen is provided for additional filtering. Large particulate matter is expelled by a chute at the back of the screen assembly. Drilling fluid passing through the screen is “reclaimed” for use with a drilling system.

  • Patent number: 9586635
Abstract: A track system for steerable vehicles having at least one axle. The track system is capable of adjusting to changes in terrain by pivoting in clockwise and counterclockwise directions relative to an axle assembly as the vehicle moves across the ground. The pivotal movement of the track system relative to the axle assembly is restricted by a limiter attached to an inboard member of the track system frame. Pivotal movement is limited by the axle assembly housing engaging the limiter when the track system pivots in either a clockwise or counterclockwise direction to a maximum point along a pivot arc.

  • Patent number: 9547101
Abstract: A system for identifying the location of a dipole magnetic field source below ground. The system comprises a first receiver assembly and a second receiver assembly each configured to detect the dipole magnetic field in three dimensions from a transmitter and generate antenna signals indicative of the detected dipole magnetic field. The first receiver assembly detects the dipole magnetic field from the transmitter substantially simultaneously as the second receiver assembly simultaneously detects the dipole magnetic field from the transmitter. The second receiver assembly is movable relative to both the first receiver assembly and the transmitter. A processor determines the location of the transmitter below ground based on the antenna signals generated by the first and second receiver assemblies.

  • Patent number: 9423503
Abstract: A tracker used to analyze a desired borepath prior to horizontal directional drilling operations. The tracker analyzes an amount of interference present at a plurality of different frequencies at multiple locations along the borepath and maps a plot of the interference at the different frequencies. The lower the point on the plot, the less interference present at that frequency at the location analyzed. The tracker summarizes the overall interference along the desired borepath for the different frequencies analyzed and will recommend a preferred frequency. An operator may program the beacon prior to boring operations to emit a beacon signal at the preferred frequency. The operator may also tune the tracker to receive the preferred frequency. The tracker and beacon may then communicate during boring operations at the preferred frequency in order to detect the position of the beacon underground relative to the tracker.

  • Patent number: 9334627
Abstract: A system and method for controlling a work machine system having a work machine and work tool. Operational characteristics of both the work machine and work tool are configured by a machine controller based upon the type of work tool attached to the work machine, the operating environment of the work machine, and the location of work site personnel or other observers relative to the machine or work tool. The operational characteristics of both the work machine and work tool may then be automatically altered during operation of the work machine system to limit or expand functions of the work machine system in response to changes in the operational environment or movement of personnel or observers relative to the work machine system.

  • Patent number: 9329297
Abstract: A receiver and tracking system for identifying a location of a magnetic field source. In a preferred embodiment a plurality of tri-axial antennas are positioned at three distinct points on a receiver frame. Each antenna detects a magnetic field from a source and a processor is used to determine a location of the source relative to the frame using the antenna signals. Each tri-axial antenna comprises three windings in each of three channels defined by a support structure. The windings each define an aperture area. The windings have substantially identical aperture areas and have a common center point. The receiver may to display to the operator the relative location of the field source or may direct the operator to a spot directly above the field source.

  • Publication number: 20160018133
Abstract: A ground source heat exchanger for use with a heat pump. The heat exchanger comprises a foldable, expandable outer pipe with an inner pipe that is placed within a borehole. The outer pipe may be folded and sealed at one end while out of the borehole. The outer pipe is inserted into the borehole then expanded by pressure to minimize the annulus between the outer pipe and the ground. The inner pipe is inserted and the inner and outer pipes are connected to the heat pump for circulation of heat exchange fluid.

  • Patent number: 9206851
Abstract: A spindle assembly for connecting a drill string to a rotational drive for use in a horizontal directional drilling operation. The assembly comprises a saver sub attached to the rotational drive, and a drive chuck for connection to the drill string. The drive chuck and saver sub form a torque-transmitting connection by engaging through a seat in the saver sub and an engagement point on the drive chuck. Dowel pins may be used to rotationally lock and provide the engagement between the saver sub and the drive chuck. A collar may thread to the saver sub and cause an interference fit by engaging the drive chuck at a shoulder.

  • Patent number: 9182513
Abstract: A method and system for identifying a location of a magnetic field source. A total magnetic field is measured during a calibration routine prior to a drilling procedure. During the drilling procedure, a magnetic field measurement is obtained. Using the measured magnetic field and the calibrated field, a set of possible angles and distances is calculated. After the source is advanced a known distance, a second magnetic field measurement is obtained. A second set of possible angles and distances is calculated. The relative location of the source is then determined using the first set and second set of values, along with the known distance and a pitch angle of the source.

  • Patent number: 9146286
Abstract: A receiver system for identifying a location of a magnetic field source using at least two tri-axial antennas. The two tri-axial antennas are laterally displaced from one another and may also be held in a substantially horizontal plane. Each of the tri-axial antennas detects a dipole magnetic field from the magnetic field source in three dimension. The receiver system uses a processor to receive an antenna signal from each of the two tri-axial antennas to determine the location of the magnetic field source using the antenna signals.

  • Patent number: 9127518
Abstract: A variable angle drilling machine comprises a frame and a pipe handling system. The pipe handling system is capable of moving from a horizontal to a second orientation and comprises a magazine, a carriage assembly, a shuttle assembly, and a pipe section biasing assembly. The pipe section biasing assembly biases pipe sections towards an open side of the magazine in order for the shuttle assembly to grab a pipe section from the magazine and transport the pipe section to the carriage assembly. The carriage assembly makes up or breaks up a drill string during variable angle boring operations.

  • Patent number: 9057180
Abstract: An apparatus for sealing a vacuum tank door. The apparatus comprises a circular flange attached to a door panel of a vacuum tank, a horizontal crossbar connected to the center of the door panel and a lifting assembly. The lifting assembly comprises an upper linkage arm, a lower linkage arm, and a hydraulic cylinder. Activation of the hydraulic cylinder causes the linkage assembly to move downwards pulling on the horizontal crossbar and pulling the vacuum tank door towards the tank. Activation of the hydraulic cylinder also causes a connection point of the lower linkage arm and the upper linkage arm to move over-center of the connection between the lower linkage arm to the to the tank creating a tight seal between the vacuum tank door and the tank.
