  • Patent number: 11990819
Abstract: An electric and hydraulic machine includes a housing defining a motor chamber and a pump chamber, a motor comprising a rotor and a stator positioned within the motor chamber, and a pump comprising a pumping element positioned within the pump chamber, the pumping element movable by the motor to displace fluid in the pump chamber. The pump chamber includes a low-pressure chamber and a high-pressure chamber, a unit inlet defined by the housing and in communication with the low-pressure chamber, and a unit outlet defined by the housing and in communication with the high-pressure chamber. The pump chamber is positioned radially inward of the motor chamber such that the pump is nested within the motor. A radial cooling channel extends in a radial direction from the low-pressure chamber to the motor chamber such that fluid in the pump chamber communicates with the rotor and the stator to cool the motor.

  • Patent number: 7395887
Abstract: A complementary regenerative torque system exists for a vehicle including an engine having an accelerator pedal position sensor; a transmission unit; and a drive shaft for driving a pair of wheels for propelling the vehicle. The regenerative torque system selectively stores and supplies energy to the drive train to provide on demand complementary torque thereto. The regenerative torque system may be either hydraulic or electric in nature and may be disposed upstream or downstream of the transmission relative to the engine. A regenerative torque control module is disposed between the accelerator pedal position sensor and the engine control module and intercepts the accelerator pedal position signal and modifies it in response to the mode of operation of the regenerative torque system and forwards the modified throttle signal to the engine control module.

  • Patent number: 7273122
Abstract: A hybrid hydraulic drive system for a vehicle comprises a prime mover, a transmission connecting the prime mover to drive wheels, a fluid energy storage accumulator, and a reversible hydraulic machine in fluid communication with the energy storage accumulator and drivingly coupled to the prime mover upstream of the transmission. The hybrid hydraulic drive system is arranged such that in a retarding mode the reversible hydraulic machine retards the drive wheels of the vehicle by pumping fluid into the accumulator. In a driving mode the reversible hydraulic machine supplies a supplementary power to the drive wheels of the vehicle using the pressurized fluid from the accumulator to assist propulsion of the vehicle. In a neutral mode the reversible hydraulic machine is disconnected from the prime mover to render the reversible hydraulic machine substantially inoperative to exert any significant driving or retarding influence on the drive wheels.
