Patent number: 6351602Abstract: An upright radiant electrical heater has a reflector assembly supporting a vertically-extending heating element assembly that radiates energy through substantially 360 degree. The reflector assembly includes heat reflective panels that disperse heat horizontally over substantially 90 degrees through an open grill at the front of the heater and vertically in a substantially uniform manner so that hot spots are avoided. A fan forces room air into the heater from below the reflector assembly, upwardly through an air passage behind the assembly into an open control chamber at the top of the heater, and outwardly into the room through ducts along the top front edge of the assembly. A thermostatic control for the heating element assembly and the fan motor is located in the air passage at the top of the heater. The flowing air maintains the exterior of the heater relatively cool to the touch, allowing parts of the housing to be molded from a thermoplastic material into aesthetically-pleasing shapes.Type: GrantFiled: July 14, 1995Date of Patent: February 26, 2002Assignee: The W. Patent number: 6167196Abstract: A portable electric space heater having a power cord with a male electrical plug and having easily replaceable quartz heating elements so that an unskilled person can remove and replace a heating element with a minimum of time, tools and skill. The heating elements are removably mounted by sockets within the heater housing behind a grill. One edge of the grill is pivotally connected to the housing and an opposite edge is connected to the housing by a latch member formed on the grill. Access to the heating elements can be obtained by unlatching the grill using the male plug as a tool.Type: GrantFiled: January 9, 1998Date of Patent: December 26, 2000Assignee: The W. B. Patent number: 6122437Abstract: An electric heater has a housing defining a heat-transmitting window and reflector assembly is mounted in housing that has a heat reflective surface. A heating element extends within the reflector assembly between opposite ends of the housing and radiates heat energy which is reflected by the reflector assembly. A pair of bracket arms are rotatably attached to opposite ends of the housing for securing the heater to a ceiling. A control switch mounted within one of the bracket arms and a control knob secured to the switch are substantially centered on the heater's axis of rotation. A U-shaped support assembly is used to mount the heater to the ceiling so that the heater is detachably connected to the support assembly. The support bracket can be mounted to the ceiling by a single wood bolt extending through an aperture provided centrally in the support assembly. As a result, the heater can be swiveled about the bolt.Type: GrantFiled: May 16, 1997Date of Patent: September 19, 2000Assignee: The W. B. Marvin Manufacturing CompanyInventor: James B. Johnson

Patent number: 5652826Abstract: A radiant electric space heater is provided with a high heat limiting capillary tube thermostat and with a grill which is pivotally mounted so that it may be pivoted to an out-of-the-way position for cleaning. The capillary tube thermostat extends along a wire forming part of the grill and into the housing of the heater.Type: GrantFiled: January 6, 1995Date of Patent: July 29, 1997Assignee: The W. B. Patent number: 5621846Abstract: A radiant electric heater has a pair of bracket arms rotatably attached to opposite ends of a housing secured to a support bracket attached to a ceiling over a work space. A control switch mounted on one of the bracket arms and a control knob secured to the switch are substantially centered on the housing's axis of rotation. The housing is rotatable relative to the bracket arms throughout an angle of not more than 90 degrees and can be held in any one of several angular positions. The control knob may have a ball chain attached thereto to control operation of the heater from a position remote from the heater. In a modification, heat shields are provided along the upper and lower margins of a reflector assembly to prevent extreme heat build-up on the heater housing.Type: GrantFiled: May 17, 1995Date of Patent: April 15, 1997Assignee: The W. B. Marvin Manufacturing CompanyInventors: Barry W. Smith, Michael T. Kopczewski

Patent number: 5297991Abstract: A combination portable electric floor and window fan is provided with louvered front and rear walls, end walls, a top surface having an upwardly-directed fixed-width V-shaped channel for receiving the lower portion of a frame or sash of a window when window-mounted, and bottom surfaces from which an elongate runner extends downwardly for engaging a window sill. The width and angle of the V-shaped channel accommodates window frames or sash of different thicknesses. The upper portions or legs of the V-shaped channel form handles for lifting and transporting the fan. Pivotally-mounted feet are confined totally within the sides of the runner when the runner is capable of sole bottom support of the fan on an outside portion of a window sill. The feet may be pivoted perpendicularly relative to the runner and the front and rear walls to support the fan either on a floor or by hooking onto an inside portion of a window sill.Type: GrantFiled: August 11, 1993Date of Patent: March 29, 1994Assignee: The W. Patent number: 5118252Abstract: The noise of operation of a fan assembly having a fan blade which rotates in a predetermined direction upon operation of the fan assembly may be reduced by the use of an intake grill including an inner central portion, ring elements disposed in mutually spaced, concentric relation to one another about the central portion, and spirallly-extending support elements connected to the central portion and to the ring elements. The intake grill further includes mutually circumferentially-spaced finger elements connected to and projecting away from a grill mounting surface which are also connected to the outermost ring element and thereby support the interconnected ring elements, central portion, and support elements in spaced relation to the grill mounting surface. Stiffening elements may be disposed between adjacent support elements and connected to selected adajcent ones of the ring elements.Type: GrantFiled: May 24, 1990Date of Patent: June 2, 1992Assignee: The W. Patent number: 4872399Abstract: An electric fan assembly for household use convertible between use in a window and use on a desk or floor has a substantially rectangular, one-piece, molded polypropylene support member formed from a first support panel, a second support panel, and a pair of living hinges connecting the first and second panels to one another along a pivot axis perpendicular to the top and bottom edges of the support member. The first support panel is constructed to provide a mounting for an electric fan motor, a venturi ring assembly including an intake grill, and an exhaust grill. In use, the two support panels may lie flat for use in a window or may be pivoted about the axis of the living hinges for use on a deck or floor. Extenders are provided for extending the effective width of said fan assembly for use in relatively wide windows and includes secondary extender plates connected to the extenders by lost motion for increasing the length of extension obtainable. The exhaust grill is optionally mounted for rotation.Type: GrantFiled: August 15, 1988Date of Patent: October 10, 1989Assignee: The W. B. Marvin Manufacturing CompanyInventor: David B. Chaney
