    Abstract: Self-contained hand held apparatus for causing controlled muscle contractions comprises a signal generator and cooperating holder, the holder bearing the electrodes by which the muscle stimulation pulses provided by the signal generator are delivered to a subject. The signal generator includes an electrical connector which is complementary to a connector integral with the holder whereby insertion of the signal generator into the holder establishes electrical connection between the pulse source and the electrodes.
