Patents Assigned to Thomas C. Wilson, Inc.
  • Patent number: 4424629
Abstract: An apparatus for cutting a pipe includes a housing member comprising a cutter body member having a collar. The cutter body member is configured at one end for insertion into a portion of the pipe to be cut. A piston chamber within the cutter body member is in communication with an aperture in the surface of the cutter body member. The collar preferably is a flange which is positioned at the other end of the cutter body. The flange extends in spaced relationship about the cutter body toward the pipe portion to be cut and is configured so as to overlay the portion of the pipe to be cut. A cutter wheel is rotatably disposed on a piston which is slidably moveable within the piston chamber. A hydraulically controlled mechanism is provided for advancing the cutter wheel toward the portion of the pipe to be cut so as to provide for cutting of the pipe at a predetermined depth of penetration.

  • Patent number: 4186584
Abstract: A tube expander of the roller and mandrel type for expanding tubes within tube sheets having a housing assembly which includes a bearing mounted stop collar having a plurality of load-absorbing fingers provided with arcuate faces for limiting the axial position assumed by the tube relative to the tube sheet during the expansion of the tube. The arrangment includes a provision for predimensioning the portion of the tube which is ultimately to be exposed from the tube sheet whereby spacer members of selected thicknesses may be removed and installed on site.

  • Patent number: 4109513
Abstract: An apparatus is disclosed for detecting leaks in a member defining an internal confined space. The apparatus comprises a housing, and induction means operatively connected to the housing for selectively inducing a partial vacuum therein, and valve means operatively associating with the housing and selectively movable to positions permitting pneumatic communication between a source of compressed air and the housing and between the induction means and the confined space, with the valve means further being selectively movable to a closed position by forces generated within the housing such that the valve means seals off pneumatic communication between the confined space and the induction means to maintain the partial vacuum produced in the confined space so as to enable the measurement and monitoring of the confined space for fluidic leaks by observing the vacuum pressures therein.

  • Patent number: 4099400
Abstract: An apparatus for expanding an end portion of a tube positioned within an opening defined by an outer member is disclosed. Such apparatus comprises a generally elongated first housing having one end portion adapted to be inserted into the tube including a plurality of rollers, mounted in the housing for expanding the end portion of the tube outwardly in engaged relation with peripheral portions of the outer member forming the opening and for developing forces directed axially into the tube. A mandrel having a taper opposite that of the rollers is positioned therebetween and inserted in the first housing to operatively cooperate with the rollers to outwardly expand the tube and develop generally axial and inward forces. A second housing is adapted to be securedly positioned along pre-selected locations of the first housing and having at least a first open end portion which faces the outer member and the end portion of the tube.

  • Patent number: 4090382
Abstract: An apparatus is disclosed for expanding and beading the end portion of a steel tube positioned within an opening of a tube sheet for use in boilers, heat exchangers and the like. The apparatus accomplishes the expansion and beading of the tube with relative portability, substantial efficiency, and minimum noise levels. An elongated housing has one end portion adapted to be inserted into the tube with a plurality of rollers mounted for rotation about the periphery. The rollers are tapered slightly and offset at an acute angle with respect to the central axis of the housing. A mandrel having a taper opposite that of the rollers is positioned therebetween such that insertion of the housing into the tube while rotatably inserting the mandrel between the rollers causes the rollers to roll into the tube along a helical path while shifting radially outward to expand the tube and develop generally axial and substantial inward forces.
