  • Patent number: 8797235
Abstract: An electronic display includes a controller transmitting display data to a plurality of modules electrically connected to each other in series. A first module receives and transmits the display data to at least one intermediate module, which passes the display data along the series in a first direction. Each of the modules controls activation of a respective plurality of lighting elements based on the received display data. A last module transmits to the controller an acknowledgement of receipt of the display data. If the controller does not receive the acknowledgement, then the controller transmits the display data directly to the last module. The last module then transmits the display data to the at least one intermediate module, which passes the display data along the series connection in a second direction opposite to the first direction.

  • Publication number: 20120319926
Abstract: An electronic display includes a controller transmitting display data from a data communication port. Modules are electrically connected to each other in a series connection. Each of a first module and a last module in the series connection receives the display data directly from the controller and transmits the display data to intermediate modules in the series connection. The intermediate modules pass the display data along the series connection in a first direction until the display data is received for a second time by the last module, and in a second direction until the display data is received for a second time by the first module. Each of the modules controls activation of a respective plurality of lighting elements based on the received display data.

  • Patent number: 4616222
Abstract: In a display sign including a plurality of rotatable display elements to be flipped between opposite extreme display positions, a bidirectional limit stop for stopping the motion of said display elements at said extreme positions is configured in the form of a bidirectional pendulum. The limit stop is preferably formed by an oversize sleeve coaxially disposed with respect to and depending from a smooth-surface horizontally disposed support member. The rotatable display element is preferably generally planar and configured to strike the opposite sides of the outer surface of the pendulum-forming sleeve along a line passing below the point of support thereof. The resulting pivoting and rotating movement of the pendulum serves to absorb a substantial portion of the angular kinetic energy of the rotating display element, thereby suppressing rebound.

  • Patent number: 4015255
Abstract: A sign includes a frame having an upwardly and outwardly extending lip. Laterally spaced digit-forming indicating assemblies each having a hook-shaped upper portion are engaged over the lip of the frame and anchored in place on the frame by screw means or the like at the bottom portions thereof. Each indicating assembly preferably includes a vertical panel made of a material of low magnetic reluctance and supporting on the front face thereof vertically spaced horizontal rows of electromagnets each including a single core leg projecting transversely from the front of the panel and horizontally extending vertically spaced pivot pins offset slightly upwardly from the center lines of the rows of core legs. A number of preferably annular permanent magnets are supported on each pivot pin opposite the core legs and spaced horizontally therealong.
