Abstract: A communication device (100) employs a method and apparatus for indicating to a user of the communication device that only a portion of a received message (120) can be displayed to the user. Some time after receipt of a message, the communication device displays a portion of the received message and one of at least two different truncation symbols in the event that the entire message cannot be displayed. Each truncation symbol indicates to the user a particular reason why the entire received message could not be displayed. For example, if the entire message could not be decoded reliably, the communication device displays a portion of the message and a message error truncation symbol. Alternatively, if a length of the received message exceeds an amount of memory allocated for the message, the communication device displays a portion of the message and a message length truncation symbol.
Abstract: A display box for a consumer article is presented that includes a base, a support member and a cover. The base has at least one platform that includes an outer surface, a bottom surface, and a flange extending from the at least one platform. The base further includes an opening in the bottom surface defined by edges of the flange. The support member is adapted for supporting the consumer article and has a pedestal that is selectively mountable on and decoupleable from the flange. The cover has a top wall and four side walls that define an inner surface. The cover is selectively coupled to and decoupled from the base and can be positioned in a first position, in which the outer surface of the base and the inner surface of the four side walls cooperate to seal the display box and to prevent an unauthorized decoupling of the cover (i.e. opening of the display box). Preferably, mechanical assistance is required to separate the cover and the base.
Abstract: A radiotelephone arrangement includes a wristworn device comprising a transceiver for receiving signals from and for transmitting signals to a wireless communications system and a controller coupled to the transceiver for controlling the transmission and reception of the signals. The battery for the wristworn device is coupled to the controller but is physically separated from the wristworn device during operation. Wires are preferably used to electrically connect the battery to the wristworn device. Alternatively, the radiotelephone arrangement comprises a wristworn unit and a radiotelephone unit. Local transceivers in each unit permits the wristworn unit to control the radiotelephone unit remotely.
Abstract: An electronic timepiece having a universal, wireless controller for transmitting wireless signals that control features of a plurality of systems. In a first aspect of the present invention, the electronic timepiece includes a data store which contains a library of control signals. In one embodiment, the library of control signals may be detached from the electronic timepiece so that new control signals may be added to the library. Each of the control signals can be retrieved and transmitted by the universal, wireless controller to emulate a conventional wireless transmitter which controls functions of a corresponding one of the plurality of systems. The electronic timepiece includes the capability for selectively retrieving a control signal for a target system from the library. In one embodiment of the present invention, the selective retrieving is performed in response to input entered through a programmable interface.

In one embodiment, the pedestal includes a cavity for receiving a security device such as an EAS marker.
Abstract: A communication device (100) provides an out-of-range battery saving function (700) for a receiver (104) which receives messages transmitted from at least one transmitter (902) over a radio frequency channel. The communication device (100) includes a signal quality detector (154) which detects when the communication device (100) is out-of-range of the transmitter 902, and a controller (108) which determines when the communication device (100) is out-of-range for a first predetermined period of time (726), generating an out-of-range confirmation signal (728). A first visual warning (214, 216, 222) is displayed on a display (128) and power to the receiver (104) is subsequently suspended by a power control circuit (154). Alternately, when out-of-range for a second predetermined period of time (722) less than the first period of time 726, an out-of-range notification signal (724) is generated.
