  • Patent number: 7770504
Abstract: Apparatus for firing a projectile comprises a receiver, a barrel, a supply of combustible gas, a combustion chamber, a valve arrangement for controlling flow of combustible gas from the supply to the combustion chamber, an igniter, and a passageway for directing combustion gases from the chamber to propel a projectile from the apparatus. In one embodiment, the barrel has a longitudinally-extending central axis, and the combustion chamber is disposed laterally adjacent the axis. A method of operating the apparatus comprises the steps of providing a combustible mixture of gas and air to the combustion chamber, igniting the mixture so as to generate combustion gases, allowing pressure in the combustion chamber to increase to a predetermined level, and releasing the gases from the combustion chamber and directing the gases to propel the projectile through the barrel.

  • Patent number: 7770571
Abstract: An anti-jam firing mechanism comprises a front bolt movable between a first position and a second position, in which a crossover point is positioned between the first position and the second position. The front bolt is operative to engage a frangible projectile, such as a paintball, as the front bolt moves from the first position to the second position. A drive mechanism drives the front bolt with either a first force or a second force. The drive mechanism drives the front bolt with the first force when the front bolt travels between the first position and the crossover point. When the front bolt travels between the crossover point and the second position, the drive mechanism drives the front bolt with the second force. Typically, the first force is less than a projectile rupturing force.

  • Patent number: 7757681
Abstract: Paintball regulators of the present invention receive higher pressure gas from a gas canister, output lower pressure gas to a gun body, but resist violent separation if inadvertently disassembled. The paintball regulators include a hollow valve body, a plug seat fixed in the valve body, a piston subassembly removably secured to the valve body, a plug, a first coacting member on the plug and a second coacting member on the piston subassembly. The valve body defines an open end for receiving the piston subassembly and a gas supply opening. A plug seat is set in the valve body such that the plug seat and the valve body together define a fluid pathway between the supply opening and the open end. The piston subassembly is removably secured to and engageable with the open end. The plug is positioned in the pathway and complementary to the plug seat.

  • Patent number: 7699047
Abstract: A paintball marker with a barrel that is coupled to a receiver. A valve arrangement is provided to selectively vent gas to propel projectiles through the barrel responsive to actuation of a firing mechanism. The marker may include a tool box that is capable of being coupled with the receiver. In some embodiments, the tool box resembles a magazine that feeds projectiles into the receiver.

  • Patent number: 7665396
Abstract: An apparatus for launching a projectile, such as a paintball. The apparatus includes a body defining a combustion chamber and a bore. A front bolt is provided that moves between a first position and a second position in which at least a portion of the front bolt is disposed within the combustion chamber in the first position. A rear bolt is movable between a third position and a fourth position such that at least a portion of the rear bolt is disposed within the combustion chamber in the fourth position. A drive mechanism is provided to urge the rear bolt to the fourth position. The apparatus includes an igniter device adapted to ignite a combustible mixture within the combustion chamber to propel the projectile through the bore. A portion of the rear bolt is configured to actuate the igniter device when the rear bolt moves to the fourth position.

  • Patent number: 7600509
Abstract: A paintball gun system comprises a gun body and a propellant tank interconnected by a quick-change coupling. The quick-change coupling partially defines a fluid pathway between the tank and the gun body in that it is included in a sequence of components from the tank to a pneumatic circuit in the paintball gun body. The quick-change coupling includes a gun-side fitting and a tank-side fitting. The gun-side fitting is in communication with the gun body at one end and terminates in an opposite open-end configured for sealed engagement of the tank-side fitting. The tank-side fitting being is in communication with the tank and has an opposite open end for sealed engagement of the gun-side fitting. Each fitting has complementary interlocking contours.

  • Publication number: 20090194088
Abstract: A non-lethal projectile launcher (such as a paintball marker) having a clamshell type receiver. One side of the receiver may be split into a front portion and a rear portion that can be independently detached from the other side. This allows the rear portion to be detached to provide access to internal components without requiring removal of the entire side of the receiver.
