Patent number: 4474372Abstract: An obstacle avoidance driving type toy has a housing with a motor located in the housing. The output of the motor is fed to a switch member which, in turn, conducts the output to either a first transfer mechanism or a second transfer mechanism. The first transfer mechanism transfers output of the motor to a moving member which includes an encounter sensor located on it. An object, under the control of the operator of the toy, is maneuvered with respect to the movement of the moving member, and if the maneuvering of the obstacle is not coordinated with the movement of the moving member, the obstacle will encounter the encounter sensor. When so encountered, a signal from the encounter sensor is fed to the switch member, which switches the output of the motor to the second transfer mechanism.Type: GrantFiled: February 15, 1983Date of Patent: October 2, 1984Assignee: Tomy Kogyo Company, Inc.Inventor: Hideyasu Karasawa

Patent number: 4472996Abstract: A series of toys having unique motions are activated by a fluid propelled propulsion device. The propulsion device includes a housing with a cylinder located thereon. A pressurized fluid reservoir connects to the cylinder via a valve. The valve has provisions for introducing pressurized fluid into the cylinder and exhausting pressurized fluid out of the cylinder. A piston is located in the cylinder and in response to introduction of pressurized fluid into the cylinder, moves in a power stroke. This is followed by an exhaust stroke wherein the piston moves in the opposite direction. A piston output member is associated with the piston and extends out of the cylinder. The piston output member moves linearly in response to movement of the piston in its power and exhaust strokes. A connecting mechanism connects the piston output member and the valve. The connecting mechanism includes a first movable member and a second movable member and a biasing member.Type: GrantFiled: April 21, 1982Date of Patent: September 25, 1984Assignee: Tomy Kogyo Company, Inc.Inventors: Masami Furukawa, Kenzo Akiyama

Patent number: 4467556Abstract: A toy vehicle which is capable of changing both its size and shape has a compound vehicle chassis having a first and a second chassis member. The chassis members are movable with respect to one another. The chassis members are connected together such that they can be moved with respect to one another reversibly between a first position and a second position. The body of the vehicle includes at least one movable member which is movably associated with one of the chassis members and is movable with respect to the chassis member with which it is associated with between two positions. The spatial relationship between parts of the body of the vehicle is changeable in conjunction with movement of the chassis members and the movable member between their respective positions.Type: GrantFiled: November 25, 1981Date of Patent: August 28, 1984Assignee: Tomy Kogyo Company, Inc.Inventors: Noriaki Iwao, Akira Abe

Patent number: 4463514Abstract: A toy which is capable of moving over a support surface includes a body having a first member. At least a portion of the body is capable of contacting a support surface. The member has ends and is pivotally mounted to the body about one of its ends. A driving mechanism is located in the toy with at least a portion of the driving mechanism located at the second end of the member. This portion of the driving mechanism is capable of moving the toy across a support surface. The member is movable with respect to the body by pivoting about its first end. The driving mechanism is activated upon pivotally moving the member with respect to the body. After being activated, the member is biased back to its original position and in doing so, that portion of the driving mechanism located at the second end of the member moves with respect to the member and engages the support surface to move the toy across the support surface.Type: GrantFiled: July 15, 1982Date of Patent: August 7, 1984Assignee: Tomy Kogyo Company, Inc.Inventor: Yoshitoshi Nagai

Patent number: 4401305Abstract: A race game of the type wherein a housing has a surface with two channels located therein with an endless belt moving in each of the channels is improved by attaching to one of the endless belts a first upstanding member and attaching to the second endless belt at least one second upstanding member. Portions of the first and second upstanding members project upwardly from the surface. A motor is located in the housing and connects to the first and second endless belts. The motor drives the endless belts which in turn moves the first and second members in continuous pathway over the surface. At one point on the surface the continuous pathways converge toward each other and at another point they diverge. The first and second members are each capable of engaging with a portion of a small wheeled race vehicle and pulling these vehicles across the surface.Type: GrantFiled: April 29, 1981Date of Patent: August 30, 1983Assignee: Tomy Kogyo Company, Inc.Inventor: Hiroshi Sano

Patent number: 4363483Abstract: A game of the type wherein a transparent housing is filled with a liquid and a movable member is located in the liquid can be made competitive by utilizing a first and second circulating member each capable of ejecting a stream of liquid from a nozzle to move the movable member. The game is improved by incorporating within the interior of a housing two separate pivoting members. Each of the pivoting members is located in association with one of the nozzles and moves in response to impingement of liquid ejected from the nozzles. The ejected liquid impinges upon the surface of the pivoting members to both pivot the members and deflect the stream of liquid. The degree of pivoting and the amount of deflection are dependent on the force of ejection of the stream of liquid.Type: GrantFiled: July 24, 1980Date of Patent: December 14, 1982Assignee: Tomy Kogyo Company, Inc.Inventor: Koichi Minami

Patent number: 4361327Abstract: A toy that includes a housing having at least one object which is movably located in the housing. Also located in the housing is an object moving member which is a composite of two sections. The sections of this moving member are each individually movable with respect to one another and each independently movable with respect to the housing. This individual movement of the sections allows them to move into a cooperative position with respect to one another. When the sections are located in the cooperative position and maintained in the cooperative position by coordinating the individual movements of the sections, it is possible to locate the object on the object moving member and move the object from a first point in the housing to a second point in the housing.Type: GrantFiled: March 12, 1981Date of Patent: November 30, 1982Assignee: Tomy Kogyo Company, Inc.Inventors: Toshiaki Kurita, Masanori Mizunuma

Patent number: 4342174Abstract: A floating toy which is capable of propelling itself through a body of water has a body to which is attached a propelling member. The propelling member is pivotally mounted to the body at its center and moves backward and forward in an oscillating motion. The member includes a ridge having an essentially triangular shape in cross section which is located at the leading edge of the member. The ridge is able to cut through the water to move in a forward direction but meets with fluid resistance when moved in a rearward direction. The resistance against the ridge propels the toy through the water. The toy includes a head pivotally mounted to the body which is capable of moving in what can best be described as a nodding motion with respect to the body.Type: GrantFiled: April 16, 1981Date of Patent: August 3, 1982Assignee: Tomy Kogyo Company, Inc.Inventor: Teruo Nikaido
