  • Patent number: 5937954
Abstract: In a method for directional drilling with the aid of a drilling device having a drill pipe and a mining tool which moves on an orbit, the tool moves at an essentially constant angular velocity during straight drilling and the angular velocity is periodically changed during curved drilling, in order to thus create a smooth transition from straight drilling to curved drilling and to achieve more precise curve control.

  • Patent number: 5833015
Abstract: Method and apparatus for sinking pipes (8) or cables into a pilot borehole (4) by use of a drill string (3) including an expansion drill bit driven to rotate and pull is disclosed. The expansion drill bit is supplied with a wash fluid and is coupled with the pipe or cable (10) to be sunk into the borehole. The pulling force between the expansion drill bit (5) and the pipe or cable is continuously measured and the measurement values are transmitted to a drive for the drill string in real time. The advance speed and/or the advance force and/or the rotational speed and/or the torque and/or the wash fluid quantity and/or the wash fluid viscosity are adjusted as a function of the measurement values to be within predetermined values determined by the load capacity of the pipe (8) or cable.

  • Patent number: 5692576
Abstract: The invention relates to a device for locating percussion boring machines using a transmitter and a receiver which allows the radio transmitter to be connected to the percussion boring machine in a simple manner and preferably without breaking the connection between the compressed air line and the percussion boring machine; which does not hinder the manoeuvrability of the hammer drill; which is less susceptible to mechanical influences during the boring; and which can easily be disassembled. This is achieved by fastening a housing with a receptacle for the transmitter or the receiver on a fluid line.

  • Patent number: 4732222
Abstract: In a ram boring machine for laying pipelines without trenching, a double blade that is axially moveable against a compression spring is housed in an impact tip and projects through slots in the impact tip. The double blade is struck by a striker piston and moves, during the breaking-up of an old pipe laid in the ground, substantially independently of the ram boring machine or of its housing. In this way substantially all the impact energy of the piston is used for the benefit of the breaking-up operation.

  • Patent number: 4018290
Abstract: A hydraulically driven vibrator, for example, of the kind used for driving or extracting sheet piles comprises a number of out-of-balance masses which are all rotatably mounted side by side for rotation about a common axis. The masses are arranged in at least two pairs, one pair being rotated synchronously with the other pair, but in an opposite direction in such a way that on rotation the masses produce vibratory forces which are additive in a direction longitudinally of the vibrator, but mutually cancel each other out in a direction transversely of the vibrator. The pairs of masses are coupled by driving chains or toothed driving belts to oppositely rotatable drive outputs of a hydraulic motor which is offset longitudinally of the vibrator from the common rotational axis of the pairs of masses. Preferably one pair of masses is keyed on a drive shaft and another pair of masses are rotatable around the drive shaft and are mounted between the two masses forming the first pair.
