Patents Assigned to Transocean Petroleum Technology AS
  • Patent number: 6213206
Abstract: Hydraulically releasable coupling (1) of the kind arranged to releasably connect a tool to a coiled tube, and which coupling (1) is provided with two or more hydraulic channels (12, 14) and (13, 15), arranged to convey hydraulic fluid from hydraulic lines, arranged in the coiled tube, to the tool; and in which the coupling (1) is held in coupled position by a locking device (4) which is secured by means of an axially displaceable sleeve (6), which again is fixed in locking position by shear pins (11). The sleeve (6) is arranged to work as a sleeve-shaped hydraulic piston, the sleeve (6) being provided with annular seals (7, 8, 9) of different seal diameters, whereby the seals (7, 8, 9) define annular areas, each assigned to a hydraulic channel (12, 14) and (13, 15). The sleeve (6) is subjected to an axially acting force equaling the sum of the products of the pressure in each of the hydraulic channels and the thereto assigned annular area.

  • Patent number: 6092756
Abstract: A combined feed-out/feed-in device (20) serves to feed a coilable tubing (12, 12') out or in, respectively, in relation to a rotatable drum (10) during uncoiling and coiling, respectively, of the coilable tubing (12, 12') on the drum (10). The drum (10) is placed on a rack part (16) which is pivotally disposed in relation to a support rack (18) about an axis parallel to the rotational axis (14). In order to obtain a positioning of the feed-out/feed-in device (20), the drum (10) and the coilable tubing (12, 12') in mutual positions of readiness entailing an absolute minimum rigging time, the feed-out/feed-in device (20) is placed on the drum's (10) support rack (18), and an outer end connector (30) is permanently mounted on the outermost end of the coilable tubing (12, 12') after the tubing has been passed through said through-going passage (20').

  • Patent number: 5660235
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and a device for use in coil pipe operations. A coil pipe (12) is coiled up on a rotary drum (10) and is fed out/in in relation to the drum (10) by means of a feeding device (14) having a rectilinear, through-going passage for the coil pipe (12). In order to reduce the number of straightenings/bendings of the coil pipe (12) to a minimum, the drum (10) is disposed in the immediate association with the feeding device (14), said drum (10) and said feeding device (14) being positioned and orientated such in relation to each other that an imaginary extension of the feeding device's coil pipe passage (16) extends substantially tangentially to the outer circumference of the coil pipe coil on the drum (10). This measure reduces the number of straightening/bending strains to one straightening upon the coil pipe's uncoiling and one bending upon the coil pipe's (12) coiling up on the drum.

  • Patent number: 5441119
Abstract: The invention relates to a directional drilling tool for use in controlled directional drilling. The drilling tool comprises two parts which are moveable relative to each other either in the horizontal or vertical planes. Cam surfaces are provided between the two parts for adjustments to the drilling direction in the vertical plane. A slot and groove mechanism is provided between the two as an example of adjustments in the horizontal plane. In each case hydraulic pressure is the preferred means of controlling the adjustments said controlling means being independent of the other well operations.
