  • Patent number: 7861380
Abstract: The replaceable elastic hand grip for framed mobility devices such as walkers that have a substantially elliptical gripping portion with at least one hole, the replaceable hand grip includes a substantially elliptical hand grip cover which includes an opening to form a C-shape cross section for securely installing the grip over the gripping portion of the frame of the mobility device. The hand grip further includes a mechanical means, such as a normally mounted pin on the inner surface of the grip cover that mates with the hole of the gripping portion of the mobility device so that the hand grip is prevented from slipping. The elastic and non-absorbent hand grip provides a replaceable, sanitary, stable grasping point for the user of the framed mobility device.

  • Patent number: 6851438
Abstract: An ergonomically enhanced crutch that has a unitary upright member that is readily manufacturable and which has a upper section and a lower section that are generally straight sections. An intermediate section forms an indentation and a handle extends from the indentation outwardly for gripping by the patent. The crutch also includes an upper arm cradle that is affixed to the unitary upright member in a telescoping manner and its location is adjustable by the user to a comfortable position. Similarly, a bottom member is telescopingly affixed to the lower section and can be adjusted along the length of the lower section for the convenience and comfort of the patient. The upper arm cradle thus is angularly inclined upwardly in the direction the patient is facing to provide added comfort for the patient.

  • Patent number: 6371142
Abstract: A seated walker has a frame that includes pair of inverted U-shaped side members and a cross bar. A seat is pivotally affixed to the frame and is movable between an upper position where the seat is generally vertical and out of the way of the user and a lower position where the seat is generally horizontal and can be utilized by the user to sit down. An elastic cord is affixed to the frame of the seated walker and encircles the seat so that the seat is biased toward its upper position. By use of the elastic cord, a user can disable the biasing function by hand to remove the elastic cord from encircling the seat and, engage the biasing. Thus, the user can use or not use the biasing function as desired. As a further feature, the seat can be pivotally affixed to a front cross bar and is supported by a pair of generally L-shaped members extending outwardly from the underside of the seat and which rest upon pair of side braces that are positioned lower on the frame than the front cross bar.

  • Patent number: 6340205
Abstract: A foldable bench has a first leg member having a top portion and a bottom portion, a second leg member having a top portion and a bottom portion, and a seat having a top surface, a bottom surface, and an attachment member for slidably attaching the top portion of one of the leg members and for pivotally attaching the other leg member below the top surface of the seat, thereby preventing the top portion of each of the leg members from separating from the seat. In a first resting position, the first and second leg members are substantially disposed adjacent the seat, and in a second resting position, the first and second leg members generally criss-cross each other and generally extend away from the seat. A backrest may be attached to the seat, preferably pivotally. In a first resting position, the backrest is substantially disposed adjacent the seat. In a second resting position, the backrest is substantially disposed away from the seat.

  • Patent number: 5791360
Abstract: A stable tubular crutch having a continuous one piece body, with an adjustable hand grip and riveted underarm support. The crutch is made of a tubular member, bent to form an elongated, flattened, fully enclosed, ovate structure with parallel spaced apart sections, within which the adjustable hand grip is positioned. An end of the tubular member longitudinally extends from the ovate structure in line with the major axis thereof and an independently adjustable straight tubular leg is interfitted with the extending end by an adjustable connection. A tubular underarm support, is fitted within a contoured section of the tubular member and is riveted thereto for a fixed connection. The adjustable hand grip is a short tube with a closed end supporting an extending hook. The base of a Y-shaped plastic member, with integrated metal rod (extending out of the fork of the Y) is slidingly retained, with a spring loading, in the open end of the tube.

  • Patent number: 5606985
Abstract: Solid (e.g. wooden) and tubular crutches, are adapted for use with standard bolt-supported hand grips, are modified for use with a bolt supported hand grip, at a desired incline for user comfort. The angle of incline, from normal lateral placement, is predetermined and the parallel spaced apart sections of the crutch are correspondingly apertured along such angle, i.e. with through apertures, to permit placement of the hand grip supporting bolt at such angle. A series of correspondingly angled apertures on the crutch bows allows for height adjustment similar to the standard laterally aligned apertures. The angled aperturing may be in addition to the lateral apertures to permit both inclined and lateral hand grip placement as desired. Alternatively, the hand grip itself is formed with an integral incline, whereby, when it is normally laterally affixed to the laterally aligned apertures of standard crutches with a standard bolt and wing nut connection, an inclined grip is provided.

  • Patent number: 4640301
Abstract: A locking assembly is disclosed which is suitable for releasably locking two articulated pivoting members in a fixed position with respect to each other. The locking assembly comprises a spring biased reciprocating latch, a plunger attached to the latch, and a catch plate adapted to rotate into locking engagement therewith. The plunger and latch are preferably integral with each other, so that the latch contains a minimum number of moving parts. The latch is designed so that simple palm pressure will cause it to disengage from the catch plate, to permit the pivoting members to move with respect to each other. The present locking assembly is of simple design and inexpensive manufacture, and is durable in use. The locking assembly is particularly applicable for use in invalid appliances such as collapsible walkers, where the users have limited manual dexterity.
