Patent number: 8844434Abstract: A machine for forming a two-stage wire tie around a pair of bars to bind the bars together. The machine comprises an arrangement for passing the wire in a loop around the bars and a twisting head for twisting the ends of the loop together. The twisting head comprises an arrangement for gripping the ends of the wire and a tie plate through which the ends of the wire pass, and the head is resiliently mounted relative to the bars so as to allow the tie plate to move through a predetermined amount of travel towards the bars, to thereby define the length of a first stage of the tie. The machine is adapted thereafter to release the ends of the wire and continue twisting these to form a second stage of the tie.Type: GrantFiled: May 11, 2010Date of Patent: September 30, 2014Assignee: Tymatic LimitedInventors: Graham Frank Barnes, Ian David Coles

Publication number: 20120132088Abstract: An apparatus for tying a wire around one or more objects such as concrete reinforcing bars is disclosed. It comprises means for passing the wire in a loop around the bars and a rotatable head for twisting the ends of the loop together. The head has at least one clamping member for clamping the wire. The clamping member provides a higher clamping force when tension in the wire is increases.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 11, 2010Publication date: May 31, 2012Applicant: TYMATIC LIMITEDInventors: Graham Frank Barnes, Ian David Coles

Publication number: 20120055577Abstract: A machine (4) for tying a length of wire (46) around one or more objects (2) comprising a wire feed mechanism adapted to feed wire (46) from a spool during a first phase; and to withdraw the wire (46) during a second phase, said wire feed mechanism comprising a gripping mechanism (102, 103) including a pair of rollers urged together to grip the wire (46) therebetween and drive it in the appropriate direction, said gripping mechanism (102, 103) being configured such that during said second phase, increasing tension in the wire (46) automatically increases the gripping force on the wire (46).Type: ApplicationFiled: April 16, 2010Publication date: March 8, 2012Applicant: TYMATIC LIMITEDInventors: Graham Frank Barnes, Ian David Coles, Paul Michael Goater

Patent number: 8047239Abstract: Machine for binding elongate objects together by at least one wire, in particular for lashing reinforcing bars, electric cables or the like. The machine includes two claws which can be guided down over the objects to be bound together. Feed rollers are arranged for feeding the wire along a guide surface of one claw and across to a guide surface of the other claw, so that it is shaped into a wire loop surrounding the objects on three sides, the legs of which loop can be twisted together on the fourth side of the objects. The twisting-together device includes an arrangement, which is rotatable relative to the claws, and which guide the wire when it is fed to and from the claws. The twisting-together arrangement allows the wire length necessary for twisting-together of the legs of the wire loop to be drawn out while a resistance is overcome.Type: GrantFiled: March 17, 2004Date of Patent: November 1, 2011Assignee: Tymatic LimitedInventor: Peter Hoyaukin
