Abstract: A polymer blend comprising polyamide, polypropylene (PP) and at least one of poly (lactic acid) (PLA) and a multi-phase compatibilizer comprising PA11-co-PP-maleic anhydride (MA). The polymer blend can be reinforced with hybrid fillers including biocarbon, glass fiber, carbon fiber and nano-clay to create composites useful in the creation of products of manufacture such as auto parts.

Abstract: Toughened polyolefins and methods used to produce toughened polyolefins in presence of a bio-filler. These materials can substitute traditional thermoplastic polyolefins known as TPOs or mineral filled TPOs. Exemplary compositions include a phase based on ?-olefin elastomers and the use of biobased fillers. The bio-based filler used, can be a material rich in elemental carbon content. The use of additives is of regular usage for these compositions as they may be related to coupling agents, UV absorbers, light stabilizers, antioxidants, and so forth. These composition offer a remarkable lower density compared to traditional TPOs compositions altogether with bio-based value-performance addition.

Abstract: Biocarbon is presented as an alternative to synthetic carbon black. Master batches having biocarbon for usage in raw plastics and/or the production of composites. Biocarbon is mainly derived from plant biomass, but other sources can be used. A method of producing the master batch: (a) pyrolyzing processed biomass in an oxygen-starved environment to produced biocarbon; (b) comminuting the biocarbon in a reduced oxygen atmosphere; (c) cooling the comminuted biocarbon; (d) mixing the cooled comminuted biocarbon with a carrier resin, thereby producing the master batch.
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of preparing sub-micron biocarbon materials using biomass that is chemically modified with organic or inorganic agents including but not limited to acrylamide, glycine, urea, glycerol, bio-glycerol, corn syrup, succinic acid, and sodium bicarbonate. The use of foaming and heating methodologies which could be either pre or post carbonization and subsequent particle size reduction methodologies for the creation of cost-competitive sub-micron biocarbon particles and fibers for a variety of applications.

Abstract: It is provided a composition for controlled-release of volatile compounds comprising at least one poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) polymer and one or more volatile compounds, the composition used for preserving food when incorporated in a food packaging. The volatile compounds are antimicrobial compounds such as allyl isothiocyanate (AITC), diacetyl, cinnamaldehyde, thymol, carvacrol and a combination thereof. The composition can comprise a blend of two or more PEG polymers of different molecular weights and/or a mixture of poly(lactic acid) (PLA) and poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO).
Abstract: The invention features thrombospondin-1 (TSP-1) polypeptides (e.g., 3TSR-Fc fusion proteins), nucleic acid molecules encoding the TSP-1 polypeptides, and compositions thereof. The invention also features methods of making and using the TSP-1 polypeptides of the invention (e.g., using 3TSR-Fc fusion proteins to treat a subject having a disorder associated with pathological angiogenesis, e.g., cancer, e.g., epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC)).

Abstract: Described are methods and products useful for identifying subjects with Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis (MAP). A number of protein antigens secreted into culture filtrate by MAP are identified and binding proteins selective for these antigens are demonstrated to be useful for detecting subjects with MAP infections including subjects with Johne's disease.

Abstract: The present invention relates to synthetic lung surfactant compositions that contain one or more of phospholipase-resistant phospho-glycerol derivatives, phospholipase-resistant phospho-choline derivatives, and surface active proteins or peptides, more preferably a combination of at least two or all three of these materials. Novel phospholipase-resistant phospho-glycerol derivatives, phospholipase-resistant phospho-choline derivatives, and surface active peptides are also disclosed herein. Uses of the surfactant compositions of the present invention to treat endogenous surfactant dysfunctional or deficient lung tissue, to prepare synthetic peptides for use in the surfactant compositions, and to deliver therapeutic agents are also disclosed.
