  • Patent number: 4733687
Abstract: Herein disclosed is a valve actuator which is to be used with a slide exhaust brake system. The valve actuator includes a cylinder casing which is constructed of: a shortened cylinder body having a length substantially equal to the sliding distance of a piston member fitted therein; and a cylindrical wall fixed on the inner side of the bottom wall of the cylinder body such that the cylinder body has its lower end merging around its circumference into the circumference of the upper end of the cylindrical wall. The heat to be transferred from the exhaust brake system to the actuator is effectively reduced by a thermal impulse at the fixing portion between the cylinder body and the cylindrical wall to exert less thermal influences upon the packing of the piston member.

  • Patent number: 4589859
Abstract: A continuously variable transmission for a vehicle (FIG. 1) has a drive pulley (4), a driven pulley (11), and a tension pulley (19) each having a pair of axially spaced rotors. The opposed inner faces of the rotors of each pulley are formed with slopes which have gradients with respect to the respective axis of rotation increasing continuously in proportion to the radii of the faces. A plurality of belts made up of thin bands (22a, 22b, 22c) run on the three pulleys (4, 11, 19) such that the respective band edges are in contact with the respective slopes of the three pulleys. The distances between the respective slopes of the drive and driven pulleys are variable, so that the rotating speed ratio between the drive and driven pulleys can be varied by varying the contacting radii of the belts with the drive and driven pulleys, while uniform tension is imparted to the belts by the tension pulley.

  • Patent number: 4436063
Abstract: A valve operating push rod for an internal combustion engine comprises a metal tube having end members with outer hardened surfaces of arcuate shape welded to the respective ends of the tube. A tubular metal member having a length slightly shorter than that of the tube is pressure fitted inside or outside the wall of the tube. At least one of the ends of the tubular member is spaced apart from the welded portion between the tube and the corresponding end member. The problem of vibration between the valve head and valve seat of the intake or exhaust valve of the engine can be minimized in this way due to the different individual vibrations of the tube and tubular member, since at least one end of the tubular member is not in contact with the corresponding welded portion.
