    Abstract: A shoe press for a paper or board machine, comprising a press shoe, a counter roll and a circulated flexible belt. A plurality of hydraulic loading cylinders for pressing the press shoe against the counter roll are arranged between a horizontal frame beam and the press shoe. The pistons of the loading cylinders are connected to the horizontal beam. The shoe press may have first hydrostatic compartments in the surface of the press shoe facing the counter roll and second hydrostatic compartments arranged between the side of the press shoe facing the loading cylinders and the loading cylinders. For supplying the working chambers of the loading cylinders and/or the first and/or second hydrostatic compartments with hydraulic fluid, there is arranged a duct which extends in the longitudinal direction of the press shoe and is common to all working chambers and the first and second hydrostatic compartments, respectively.

    Abstract: A method of supporting a press shoe in a shoe press for a paper or board machine, said press shoe forming together with a counter roll an extended nip for a paper or cardboard web and for a flexible circulated belt. On the outside of the loading cylinder of the press shoe there is arranged a compartment, to which hydraulic fluid is supplied in such a manner that the hydraulic fluid in the compartment directly or indirectly exerts a force upon the press shoe in the direction opposite to that of the force exerted upon the press shoe by the loading cylinder. The cylinder part of the loading cylinder is movably arranged on the piston part. Said forces are dimensioned such that in operation they create a gap between the press shoe and the loading cylinder, or between the supporting beam of the press shoe and the loading cylinder, thereby allowing hydraulic fluid to flow out of the compartment.

    Abstract: A through-air drying apparatus for drying a traveling wet paper web supported on a continuous fabric comprises a dryer roll about which the fabric and web are partially wrapped and which has a foraminous roll face, a supply hood which surrounds the portion of the roll about which the fabric and web are wrapped and which supplies heated air through the fabric and web and through the roll face into the interior of the roll, and an exhaust system for exhausting air from the roll. An axial exhaust passage is formed through at least one head of the roll. An exhaust manifold is connected to the exhaust passage and defines two outlets on opposite sides of the manifold. A pair of movable ducts are sealingly and releasably engaged with the outlets in the opposite sides of the manifold, the ducts being spaced apart on opposite sides of the roll so that an access space is defined between the two ducts for access to the roll and supply hood.

According to the invention the handling station is provided with a lifting device comprising two lifting elements arranged to be brought into engagement with a reeling drum provided with core(s) and situated on the lifting table, and to lift this and deliver it to the upper pair of rails.

    Abstract: A device is provided in a reel-up in a paper machine in which paper is produced in a web running in the reel-up and supported by a surface winding drum and wound onto exchangeable reeling drums in contact with the surface winding drum in order to form reels of paper. The device applies an adhesive agent on the web when changing full-width reels and in the event of web ruptures in the reel-up. A screen is mounted on the stand of the reel-up, upstream of the surface winding drum, and extending transversely to the machine direction. A spray rack, supported by the screen, extends transversely to the web across its entire width and comprises a plurality of nozzles distributed uniformly across the web to spread spray jets of liquid containing said adhesive agent onto the web to form a coherent adhesive area perpendicular to the machine direction. The adhesive area is brought into contact with an empty reeling drum or an already commenced reel of paper.

The belt (19) and the web (7) move from the through drying machine (13) to the drying cylinder (17) in a run that is free from mechanical means which would compress the web, whereby in said run the surface of the web which is exposed to the drying air faces away from the belt and remains free from contact with such means up to the drying cylinder.

    Abstract: Apparatus and method for winding paper onto a parent roll includes a rotatable reel spool onto which the paper web is wound and a reel drum over which the paper web is guided and which contacts the parent roll to form a nip at which the paper is wound onto the parent roll. In one embodiment, sensors are used for determining the indented thickness of the parent roll at the nip and the unindented thicknesses of the parent roll spaced from the nip, from which a radial indentation is derived. A control relatively positions the reel spool and reel drum to maintain the radial indentation within predetermined limits. In another embodiment of the invention, control of linear nip load is accomplished by measuring a diameter of the paper roll and a force indicative of linear nip load, and controlling relative positioning of the reel spool and reel drum to maintain the force within predetermined limits that are based on the diameter of the roll.

For each dilution header outlet, there is a diluent conduit permitting the passage of a diluent from the dilution header into a stock conduit.

    Abstract: An elastic clamping ring for an enclosed shoe press roll used to clamp the jacket to the gables of the shoe press roll is disclosed. A rigid clamping ring is arranged on the inner side of each gable to form a groove which opens outwardly in the radial direction and in which the elastic clamping ring is received. A stop member is arranged radially outside the elastic clamping ring. By operation of securing members, the rigid clamping ring is forced in the direction of the peripheral gable part in order to squeeze the elastic clamping ring such that it expands outwardly in the radial direction and clamps the edge of the jacket between itself and the stop member. The invention also relates to a shoe press roll that uses an elastic clamping ring with a hexagonal cross section for clamping of the jacket of the shoe press roll to the gables of the shoe press roll.

    Abstract: An apparatus and method for winding tissue webs into a parent roll is disclosed which results in greater uniformity in sheet basis weight, machine direction stretch and bulk when comparing the corresponding sheet properties taken from representative locations throughout the roll. The apparatus and method includes engaging the tissue web against a reel spool with a flexible member such as a transfer belt which traverses an unsupported span between two support rolls. The web is transferred from the transfer belt to the parent roll as the parent roll is urged against the sheet/transfer belt at a point within the unsupported span. The resulting deflection of the transfer belt is detected and, in response, the reel spool position is changed to control the deflection at a desired level. Accordingly, a predetermined light nip pressure can be applied to the roll as the tissue web is wound thereon and large parent rolls of high bulk tissue can be manufactured with desired properties when unwound.
